Seeking:

Franco Wicks:

African American Male, early 20s. Lead Role. Charismatic, likeable, skilled young actor. Should be able to convincingly portray the role of a Chicago street kid, an appearance that belies what’s underneath. Ambitious, smart, good sense of humor, street-wise; good with language—he’s a writer and is well read; he’s got faith in the future. Franco’s economic circumstances are poor, but he believes he can change that with ambition, smarts and talent; the audience should root for him. The scenes between Franco and Arthur are the core of the play.

Kiril Ivakin:

Caucasian Male, 35 years old. A recent immigrant from Russia; bachelor working construction next door; he is in love with the barmaid at his neighborhood bar. The character speaks Russian in the play. Role requires a large build (like a body-builder)—he is described as Dolph Lundgren in ROCKY. Kiril’s physical size and build alone should intimidate the other characters, though what we later learn about him suggests a gentle, even romantic nature. Must be able to pick up another male actor (weighing approximately 180 pounds) and carry him offstage.

Officer James Bailey:

African American Male, 40-45. A character man; he’s been a beat cop for a while, knows the neighborhood and understands the dangers and the positives; warm, perceptive, and street-wise. James is a good cop with a humanist touch; likes people, tries to deal with them fairly. Ideally slightly out of shape or plump. A likeable guy.

Kevin Magee:

Caucasian Male, 28-33. A Chicago street hood. His grandparents might have been Irish immigrants; ideally seeking an actor with an Irish/Scottish look (fair with blonde or red hair). His clothes and manner do not suggest that he has much money; works with Luther on collecting ‘debts’ and poses a palpable physical threat; possibly a meth addict, with the physicality and unpredictability that can entail. He’s a survivor, knows this rough neighborhood and can thrive in it.
