ZORBA (Music by John Kander, Lyrics by Fred Ebb, Book by Joseph Stein. Based on the book ZORBA THE GREEK by Nikos Kazantzakis.)
8m, 6f
The role of "The Leader" is pre-cast.
SYNOPSIS:
In a bouzouki café in Piraeus in 1970, a group of people meet to tell the "Zorba" Story. In 1924, Niko, a student, has inherited a mine which he plans to resurrect to its working state. With his new friend, Zorba - who is very much his own man and a law unto himself - he travels from Piraeus to Crete and lodges with a French woman, Hortense, who dreams of marrying Zorba. Niko gives Zorba money with which to buy supplies to reopen the mine, but Zorba spends it on a belly-dancer. Despite misgivings, Niko warily plucks up his courage and goes to visit the beautiful young Widow who has been bringing them sandwiches. A mentally unstable young man, Pavli, has unsuccessfully pursued the Widow. After witnessing the Widow with Niko, Pavli throws himself into the sea.
Next morning, village celebrations are stilled when Pavli's body is washed up onto the shore. Zorba returns to the village with no supplies for the mine, no money and no wedding ring for Hortense. A member of Pavli's family stabs the Widow to death, blaming her for Pavli's suicide. Zorba is a philosophical man, but Niko cannot understand Zorba's attitude to those who killed the Widow. Zorba explains that one must accept death as one accepts life, all there is left to do is dance. Hortense has become very ill - Zorba rushes to her side but to no avail. Niko and Zorba, in their mutual grief, begin to dance. Niko decides to return to Athens - and Zorba to wherever life leads him.
NOTE: All actors portray both the members of the Bouzouki Circle (in 1968) and characters in the "Zorba Story." Many actors double in roles.

The role of "Sweet Sue" is pre-cast.
SYNOPSIS:
“Sugar” is the musical adaptation of the hilarious movie "Some Like It Hot." In Prohibition Era Chicago, two unemployed musicians, bass player Jerry and saxophone player Joe, witness the St. Valentine’s gangland massacre. To escape tap-dancing hoodlum Spats Palazzo and his henchmen, they dress as women and join Sweet Sue and Her Society Syncopaters, an all-female band about to leave town for an engagement at a Miami Beach hotel. Things get sticky when Joe (now known as Josephine) falls in love with beautiful band singer Sugar Kane. Sugar has a slight drinking problem that tends to interfere with her ability to choose a romantic partner wisely. More than anything, Sugar wants to marry a millionaire, prompting Joe to disguise himself as the man of her dreams. Jerry is now Daphne and she/he is being pursued by wealthy and elderly Sir Osgood Fielding. Of course, Jerry should reveal his true gender to the over-amorous paramour, but he is enjoying all the expensive gifts Fielding is bestowing upon him. Total chaos erupts when Spats and his gang descend upon the hotel and realize who Josephine and Daphne really are.
