HEROES OF THE FOURTH TURNING, by Will Arbery

Scheduled Show Dates: September 25, 2022- October 23, 2022

Setting: A town of 7,000 in western Wyoming

August 19, 2017, two days before the solar eclipse. One week after the Charlottesville riot. The night of Gina’s inauguration as president of Transfiguration College of Wyoming.

Seeking:

JUSTIN: Male, 38. Quiet, traditional, sweet, and simmering beneath the surface. His gentle demeanor belies secrets in his past.

EMILY: Female, 25. Struggling with mysterious chronic pain. Deeply religious, but also always empathetic to perspectives different from her own.

KEVIN: Male, 28. Labeled a sad sack with a porn addiction by almost everybody in his life. Confused and drinking too much, but more thoughtful than he seems.

TERESA: Female, 29. A brilliant, fast-talking, Steve Bannon acolyte, proud of both her conservatism and her New York City bonafides.

GINA: Female, 64. A mentor who is beloved for her warmth and respected for her sternness.


PEOPLE, PLACES, AND THINGS by Duncan Macmillan

Scheduled Show Dates: November 13, 2022- December 11, 2022

Setting: Britian; now. A flurry of locations following Emma’s progression. A theater, a hospital, a childhood home, a club, but primarily a drug and alcohol rehabilitation center.

Actors in the following descriptions will be part of an active ensemble and play multiple roles. A strong arsenal of comedic and dramatic chops and stylings required as well as a positive attitude and playful, collaborative energy. All racial and ethnic backgrounds encouraged to submit.

Seeking:

EMMA – 30’s; female; any race – an actress and addict reluctantly entering treatment. Cagey, wry, witty. Compulsively lies about her identity, constantly playing a character, fervently searching for truth and a way out. Finds comfort and meaning in the stage, searching for it in her own life.

DOCTOR/THERAPIST/MUM: 60’s; female – a doctor working at the clinic; therapist; Emma’s mother. Pragmatic and direct. All characters are different but connected.

DAD/PAUL/ENSEMBLE: 60’s; male – Emma's father. A man of little words supporting his daughter the best he can. Also a patient of the center that has deep faith in God.

FOSTER/ENSEMBLE: late 30’s; male – A rehabilitated addict and graduate of the program that now works as an employee. Sympathetic, biting, and charming, he’s Emma’s first ally at the center.

MARK/ENSEMBLE: 30’s; male – a patient of the center. Witty, temperamental, and a tad haughty at times. A scream in search of a mouth.

MEREDITH/ENSEMBLE: 40’s-50’s; female – a patient of the center. A mother reconciling with her addiction and estrangement from her husband and stepchildren.

LAURA/ENSEMBLE: 30’s; female – a patient of the clinic. Hopeful for the future of her recovery but haunted by past transgressions towards her sister.

SHAUN/ENSEMBLE: 30’s-40’s; male – a patient of the center. Former trader and gambler who pushed his limits, ultimately losing control and bankrupting a company.

JODI/ENSEMBLE: 40’s-50’s; female – a patient of the center. Looking for a way to enjoy life, choosing between her family or drinking.

T/ENSEMBLE: 30’s; male – a patient of the center. Born into addiction and propelled down a path of burglary and violence and now committed to recovery.


ENGLISH, by Sanaz Tossi

Setting: 2008. A classroom in Karaj, Iran.

All racial and ethnic backgrounds encouraged to submit. Iranian American actors are encouraged to submit.

MARJAN: The teacher; Iranian; 44; light accent; she was taught American English.

ELHAM: A student; Iranian; 28; very thick accent; she bulldozes through English.

ROYA: A student; Iranian; 54; thick accent; she wrings English dry.

OMID: A student; Iranian; 29; very light accent; he speaks a little like an alien.

GOLI: A student; Iranian; 18; light, sweet accent; not a girl, not yet a woman.


CLYDE'S, by Lynn Nottage

Setting: A truck stop sandwich shop on a nondescript stretch of road, in Berks County, Pennsylvania. A liminal space.

All racial and ethnic backgrounds encouraged to submit.

Seeking:

CLYDE: Black; the owner of this restaurant; fiercely stuck in her ways and doesn’t plan on changing her mind on anything anytime soon; a sexy and merciless ex-convict.

MONTRELLUS: Black; a true sandwich genius who is revered by the other employees; kind, hip, and wise—think Buddha from the ‘hood'; a former convict who is working to create a future he is proud of.

RAFAEL: late 20’s; Latino; jokester with a big heart; constantly flirts with Letitia and is confident that she will fall for him eventually; ex-convict who is focused on maintaining his sobriety.

LETITIA: late 20’s; Black; single mother of a small child with special needs; has a rocky relationship with the child’s father (her ex); kind and caring but will not stand for mistreatment; former convict working hard to support her family.

JASON: late 20’s; White; moody and gruff; the restaurant’s newest employee; covered in white supremacist tattoos but is adamant that he’s not a troublemaker; recently released convict trying to quietly start over.


GOOD BONES, by James Ijames

Possible Ext Close: June 25, 2023

Setting: The kitchen of a townhome in a city not unlike, Washington DC, Or Philadelphia PA or New York, NY or San Fransisco CA. An American City that is now too expensive for most people to live.

All racial and ethnic backgrounds encouraged to audition.

Seeking:

AISHA: 30’s; Black; grew up in this neighborhood and is moving back home with her husband Travis; working to turn a cherished neighborhood spot into an upscale meeting space; excited about remodeling their new house to be just right.

EARL: 30’s; Black; has lived in this neighborhood his whole life and doesn’t plan on leaving; a staple in the community regarding keeping history and working as a handyman; hired to complete work on Aisha and Earl’s new home.

TRAVIS: 30’s; Black; a chef moving into a brand-new city where he’s opening an upscale southern restaurant; doesn’t quite understand the special quirks of this neighborhood and isn’t especially eager to learn; money-conscious, especially when it comes to Aisha and her remodeling plans.

CARMEN: early/mid 20’s; Black; college educated and starting to look at the world through a new perspective; doesn’t always see eye-to-eye with her older brother, Earl, but their love for one another is fierce.
