Equity performers, men and women.
This is an ensemble piece wherein the actors are introduced as attendees of a New Orleans funeral; as the play unfolds, the actors tell the story of the demise of Storyville.

Preparation
Please prepare a brief cut of a jazz or musical theatre song that shows off range and personality. Please bring sheet music and a picture/resume, stapled.

Breakdown

SEEKING:
TIGRE SAVOY
African American Female, 30s. A beautiful leading lady with star quality. Sexy, sultry, strong and charismatic night club performer. A single mother who is fiercely independent and trying to make ends meet. Must dance or move well. Rich jazzy belt voice with soprano.
BUTCH ‘COBRA’ BROWN
African American Male, 30s. Handsome, strong, sexy, strapping, charismatic ex-boxer turned jazz musician. A tough guy with a heart. Ideally this actor plays the trumpet, but not essential. Must move well. Great jazz singer (baritone).
HOT LICKS SAM
African American Male, 30s-40s. The reigning jazz musician in town. A fantastic trumpet player and jazz singer ala Louis Armstrong. Fun, charismatic personality. All heart and attitude with a great sense of comedy; a clown. Ideally, this actor actually plays the trumpet, but not essential. Bari-tenor.
GEORGE ''PUNCHIE''SAVOY
African American 9-10 year-old boy. Tigre’s mischievous young son. Wants to be a trumpet player despite his mother’s resistance. Always getting into trouble, but ultimately a good kid. Strong singer.
BIG MAMA LITTLE
African American female, late 40s-60s. A dynamic gospel performer. The district’s earth mother; she dabbles in voodoo, but her spells never work. Strong personality with a great sense of comedy. Big belt voice.
''MAYOR'' MICKEY MULLIGAN
Caucasian male, 40s-50s. An unscrupulous politician and shady businessman. Runs the town and makes his power known to all around him. A mafia don-type; alternately intimidating and comic. Singer.
COUNTESS WILLIE
African American female, late 40s-60s. A flamboyant Madame of the district’s infamous brothel. Carries airs of European sophistication; wears monocle and carries a cigarette in a long holder. Commanding, manipulative and not above deception. Strong singer, belt and soprano.
BARON DE FRONTBLEAU
Caucasian male, 50s. An elegant, non-threatening genuine French nobleman. Deals in drug (dope) import, but does not look the part. Classy and well dressed. Baritone.
FIFI FOXY
African American female, 20s-30s. Gorgeous, sexy, mischievous “lady of the evening” in the Countess’ brothel. Opinionated, ambitious and comic. A Josephine Baker-type. Strong belt with soprano. Must dance well.
TANGO ROSE and TEXAS
African American, Asian or Latin females, 20s-early 30s. Confident, sexy ‘ladies of the evening’ that work in Countess’ brothel. Strong singers and dancers.
FRANKY
Caucasian male, 20s-early 30s. A sailor in the Navy. Handsome and strapping. Doubles in the ensemble. Must sing and dance.
NO NOSE NICK
Latin, Asian or African American Male, mid 20s. A red neck and street fighter. Loud, brash and aggressive tough guy. Strong singer and dancer.
