Seeking:

Melchior-

Handsome, smart and charismatic. The best student in the school but all without effort. He’s comfortable in his skin, and a seeker of knowledge. He’s wiser and more knowledgeable (particularly when it comes to sex) than most, and while not a natural rebel he finds himself at odds with his world. He is in love with Wendla.

Moritz-

Melchior’s best friend. He’s good-hearted but unsuccessful in school. He’s intense and often overwhelmed by his emotions and he suffers from his inability to succeed in this rigid society.

Wendla

A school girl, same age as the boys; passionate, curious about the world and sex but also naïve due to lack of information so she’s little means of understanding all her complicated feelings. She has a romantic and sexual connection to Melchior.

Ilse

Another childhood friend who runs away from an abusive home to become a Bohemian. She’s sensual, adventurous and wild. Living a very different life than all her peers.

Martha

One of Wendla’s friends; she bears shame and suffering due to her physically and sexually abusive father.

Anna

A school girl and Wendla’s best friend

Thea

A school girl and Wendla’s best friend

Otto

Another classmate, a little quirky.

Hanschen

Another schoolboy. His sexual interests and emotional self-knowledge are more worldly than most.

Ernst

Hanschen’s love interest.

Georg

Another classmate who lusts after his older, busty piano teacher. A sensitive soul.

Ensemble

Two men (tenor and baritone) and two women (soprano and alto)
