Martin:
Caucasian man, mid 20s – mid 30s. Very talented writer in Leonard’s seminar. Quick-witted and sharp-tongued; quick to make fun of those he feels are pompous and pretentious. That said, he is very insecure about his writing, and reluctant to put his work forward for Leonard’s scrutiny; does not realize his untapped potential. Has a mad crush on fellow seminar student Kate.
Kate:
Caucasian woman, mid 20s – mid 30s. Writer in Leonard’s seminar. Very smart, passionate, quick-witted and poised. Very well-educated—a Bennington woman. Comes from money, but the last thing she wants to be seen as is a privileged white girl who has had it easy. Vulnerable when it comes to her writing.
Douglas:
Caucasian man, mid 20s – mid 30s. Another writer in Leonard’s seminar. Gay. Extremely good- looking. Quick-witted, educated—and enormously well-connected. Name-dropper who will pause to say he doesn’t want to name drop—and then will drop ten names. Not without writing talent, but most likely best suited to TV rather than novels.
Izzy:
Asian woman, mid 20s – mid 30s. Writer in Leonard’s seminar. Beautiful, sexy, bold, smart. Extremely comfortable in her own skin. Impulsive and blithe, she’s a solid writer with potential. Likes to rock the boat whenever she can to get a rise out of people—be it flashing her breasts during class (partial nudity may be involved) or unapologetically admitting to sleeping with her professor to get ahead.
Leonard:
CAST. Seeking Understudy. Caucasian man, early – mid 50s. Distinguished author who now teaches very exclusive writing seminars. Takes no prisoners and suffers no fools.
