RESPECT: A Musical Journey of Women – OPEN Auditions

Dorothy Marcic’s popular and high-energy musical – which recounts the journey of women in the 20th century through Top 40 songs. Two weeks rehearsal starting December 6, 2010. Eleven week tour starting in Phoenix, AZ, December 22, 2010 for eight weeks, then two weeks in Coral Springs, FL and finishing with one week in Baltimore, MD, ending March 6, 2011.

Callbacks: October 5th, 2010

1st rehearsal: 12/6/10. Runs: 12/22 – 3/6/11. Tour starts in Phoenix, AZ for 8 weeks, then 2 weeks in Coral Springs, FL, then 1 week in Baltimore, MD.

OPEN Auditions (Equity/Non-Equity):

Monday, October 4, 2010 at Pearl Studios

10 AM – 6 PM 500 8th Avenue

Lunch: 1:30pm - 2:30pm New York, NY

Equity audition procedures are NOT in effect. No Equity monitor provided. Producer runs all aspects of the audition.

Prepare 32 bars of a pop-rock song showing range and personality. Can be from 1950s to current. Have a second contrasting selection prepared in case asked for it. Bring picture and resume, stapled together.

Seeking:

1 Female Performer:

African-American, mid-20s to mid-30s. Can sing jazz, soul, R&B. Dance skills a plus. She is abrasive—the “hard-hearted Hannah,” and needs to find her vulnerability. Real courage is not displayed by aggression or overdone power. She learns to temper her strength, to push back in more productive ways. Featured songs include: “I Will Survive”, “Where the Boys Are”, “Respect”, and “Hero”.
