BREAKDOWN

Quicksand, a world premier production.

Quicksand is an original theatrical adaptation of Nella Larsen’s semi-autobiographical novel of the Harlem Renaissance that tracks the journey of Helga Crane, daughter of a Danish white mother and West Indian black father, as she searches, fruitlessly, for a community of her own. Crane’s travels take her through the deep South, Denmark, and New York, eventually returning her to essentially the same place she started from – still other, still alien, still unfulfilled. The cyclical nature of this journey will be reflected in dynamic staging that illustrates the constant motion and existential unrest that comes from trying to find one’s place in the world. Quicksand was developed as part of the Access Theatre’s 2016-2017 Artist Residency program, is the recipient of grants from The Puffin Foundation, The Yip Harburg Foundation, and ART/NY, and has received a 3B residency from the IRT Theatre.

Productions states: Everyday Inferno seeks and strongly encourages diversity of all kinds on and offstage. We are actively seeking a diverse cast for this play and strongly encourage actors of all ethnicities, types, accents, gender presentation, and physical ability to apply for these roles. Where gender is noted in the breakdown, it refers to the gender of the character. Because of the nature of this play, available roles have been broken down and listed by the largest role attached to the casting track, but please note that all actors will play multiple roles, with the specific breakdown of characters determined after casting is completed. Please note if you sing, dance, or can play an instrument.
