BREAKDOWN
NOISES OFF
NOTE: All roles speak with an RP accent.
SEEKING:
DOTTY OTLEY: Female, any ethnicity, 50s-60s. British. Grand Dame of the theater having established herself playing character roles. Often forgets lines, props and entrances but passionate about the play (having literally invested in it). Has a thing for younger men. Plays Mrs. Clackett in “Nothing On.” Adept at comedy.
BROOKE ASHTON: Female, any ethnicity. Mid 20s-mid 30s. British. Inexperienced young actress often caught up in her own thoughts. Constantly losing her contact lenses and consequently her way—but carries on with the play regardless. Unknowingly in a love triangle. Plays Vicki in “Nothing On.” Adept at comedy.
BELINDA BLAIR: Female, any ethnicity, 30s – mid 40s. British. A veteran actress who tends to see the positive and rallies the company into forward motion. Protective of Freddie and prone to gossip, though her good cheer generally carries the day. Plays Flavia in “Nothing On.” Adept at comedy.
FREDERICK FELLOWES: Male, any ethnicity, 30s – mid 40s. British. A good-hearted but insecure actor prone to overthinking; the actor who always has a question late in the game. Strong aversion to violence with a penchant for nosebleeds. Plays Phillip in “Nothing On.” Adept at comedy.
LLOYD DALLAS: Male, any ethnicity, 40s – 50s. British. The director of the play. Charismatic with the presence and charm to run the room but prone to biting sarcasm and often exasperated with his company. In a love triangle with Brooke and Poppy and forever trying to keep that under wraps. Adept at comedy.
GARY LEJEUNE: Male, any ethnicity, 30s – 40s. British. Confident in speaking for the company but inarticulate and prone to unfinished sentences. Loves passionately and frequently driven into fits of jealous rage. Must be particularly adept at physical comedy. Plays Roger in “Nothing On.” Adept at comedy.
TIMOTHY ALLGOOD: Male, any ethnicity, mid 20s – 30s. British. Eager to please, over-worked Stage Manager. Constantly tasked with fixing the many production woes. Adept at comedy.
SELSDON MOWBRAY: Male, any ethnicity, 70s. British. Classical actor who is deeply alcoholic and hides his bottles onstage. Hard of hearing but perhaps using that to his advantage. Pleasant demeanor and quite charming as the burglar despite his bumbling state. Adept at comedy.
