BREAKDOWN

SEEKING:

José-
Mexican Male 40’s or more. ?A Mexican Clown. This man leads with his heart. He reacts, he feels deeply, he follows his instincts. He can cry instantly and is the friend you call at 3am when you’re on the verge of disaster. He believes in God and family. He is funny, charming, and incredibly loving. But he is an alcoholic. He can be misogynistic, homophobic, and racist. He will punch you as quickly as he will hug you. He has a hard time understating that rage and anger are two different things. He can be a pendejo but he is not dumb. He carries the weight of the death of his son. He is a man who takes advantage of every emotion.

Joe-
American Male 40’s or more. An American Clown. This man leads with his brain. He is well educated, ambitious and always looking for the next challenge. He loves a good glass of wine and the actual paper. He has a five-year plan. He believes in capitalism and free markets. He can be kind, he can be loving, he can be a good listener. He idolizes his late father. He believes that with business comes sacrifice. He suffers from insomnia. He mediates twice a day. He carries the weight of the end of his marriage. He takes advantage of every thought.

A useful quote for the performers: “The clown has great importance as part of the search for what is laughable and ridiculous in man. We should put the emphasis on the rediscovery of our own individual clown, the one that has grown-up within us and which society does not allow us to express.” Jacques Lecoq

Synopsis: José and Joe have been Neighbors their entire lives, but have never found the time to get to know one another. When José asks Joe for help, the two men become friends and finally get to know the man on the other side of the creek. But as their bond grows so does their business, and the sacrifices they once made for profit come back to bite them in the culo.
