SEEKING

Equity actors for roles in MY TOWN, A George M. Cohan Musical (see breakdown).

We are seeking energetic, multi-Cultural, performers who are strong movers and are comfortable singing in various styles. Performers will need to communicate with young audiences early in the morning.

The Producer and Creative Team are strongly dedicated to interracial casting and ethnic minorities are greatly encouraged to submit.

INSTRUCTIONS

Note: the work day will be very early mornings into mid-afternoon. Most performances are at 9:00 AM. & 10:30AM.

This production is performed during the morning. All performances are at New York City public elementary and middle schools in the five boroughs. There is a 10-15 minute Q&A session with the students directly after the performances. The morning call time is at the Inside Broadway office located in Midtown/Hell's Kitchen Manhattan. Transportation is provided to the schools from the Inside Broadway office. PLEASE NOTE: All actors are hired as Actor/ASMs and will be required to load in/load out.

BREAKDOWN

Sypnopsis: Mary is 13-year-old, 8th grader on her class field trip to New York City. When Mary’s classmates leave her behind in Times Square, the famed statue of George M. Cohan comes to life to take her on a magical tour of New York City. Mary and George entertain the tourists of Times Square before heading to the lower east side, Battery Park and 42nd Street. The pair meet interesting people along the way including tourists, lower east side shop keepers, an Instagram star and her photographer. Mary learns about the history of New York and the life and career of George M. Cohan while finding inspiration to write her own story.

Available Roles:

MARY: 18+ to play 13-year-old. 8th grade student on a field trip who finds herself having a magical tour of New York City with George M Cohan. She is charming, funny, sassy, curious, tough, and smart. She is a real New York kid who knows a lot about the world. Think Dorothy from the Wiz. Has a great bright voice and move well.

GEORGE M. COHAN: 18+. A statue come to life. George is an old Broadway type back in action after a long absence from New York. He is the true meaning of a song and dance showman. Experiencing the new New York for the first time with wonder and a great love of his town. Charming, funny and fast. Has a great big “Broadway” voice and be an excellent dancer/mover.

MAN 1: 18+. 8th grade student, New York Tourist, Mr. Harrigan (an older Irish man), Fashion photographer and person of NYC. Can jump between characters effortlessly with a big voice and good movement ability. Juggling is a plus.

WOMAN 1: 18+. 8th grade mean girl student, Mrs. Harrigan (An older Irish woman), New York Tourist, Instagram Influencer star and person of NYC. Can create large characters with a great voice and good dance ability. Great comic timing.
