A delightful comedy about a band of angelic convicts who come to the rescue of a lovely young woman and her hapless family on Christmas day in French Guiana in 1910.The play contains roles for 7 men and 3 women. They are:
Marie Louise Ducotel:
(20s) - A beautiful and innocent young woman.
Felix Ducotel:
(50s) - Marie Louise's father, a thoroughly amiable and impractical soul who operates a general store in a penal colony.
Emilie Ducotel:
(40s-50s) - Marie Louise's mother, a good and patient woman who loves her husband.
Mme. Parole:
(40s-60s) - A non-paying customer who is as “scatterbrained as a fox.”
Joseph:
(40s-50s) - A convict and public spirited ex-forger.
Jules:
(40s-50s) - A convict who killed a faithless wife - well-educated and introspective.
Alfred:
(20s-30s) - A convict and ex-playboy (with a heart of gold) who murdered for money.
Henri Trochard:
(50s-60s) - Felix's cold-hearted and miserly cousin.
Paul:
(20s-30s) - Henri's nephew and one-time suitor to Marie Louise - weak and greedy.
Lieutenant:
(20s-30s) - An extremely handsome young naval officer.
