Musicals Tonight! – Equity Principal Auditions

New York, NY Equity Seasonal Showcase, approval pending; last year’s stipend: $606

Artistic Director: Mel Miller

Each production rehearses for two weeks just prior to the opening of a 2 week (16 performance) run at The McGinn/Cazale Theatre. Rehearsals tend to be at ART/NY, 520 Eighth Avenue, 3rd Floor, evenings during the week and days on the weekends. Not every cast member is called to every rehearsal. There is no single day off for the entire company BUT everyone gets several complete days off during the rehearsal period.

Wednesday, September 15, 2010 at the Actors' Equity Audition Center

9:30 AM — 5:30 PM 165 West 46th Street, 2nd Floor

Lunch from 1 - 2. New York, NY

Prepare a brief traditional song, a la Cole Porter, George Gershwin, Irving Berlin, etc. Bring sheet music; accompanist provided. Bring picture and resume, stapled together.

Seeking performers for the following 2 shows:

PANAMA HATTIE

Runs: October 12 - 23, 2010

This production from 1940 starred Ethel Merman, Betty Hutton, June Allyson, Vera Ellen, and some guys too. Songs: I've Still Got My Health, We Detest a Fiesta, Make It Another Old-Fashioned, Please; Let's Be Buddies.

Seeking:

Hattie Maloney:

30-something; brassy; earthy; heart of gold – Ethel Merman role. Belter to a D.

Geraldine Bullett:

Under 12 years old. The ‘little’ girl Hattie seeks to win over. Boarding school attitudes. Vulnerable but tries to hide it. Alto

Nick Bullett:

30-something. Hard-working engineer-type and reluctant absent father. Knows getting Hattie depends on wooing Jerry. Baritone to an E

Skat Briggs, Windy Deegan, Woozy Hogan:

Sailors/CBs on the S.S. Idaho/South Pacific types, all shapes and sizes. A mix of bass, baritone and tenor.

Florrie:

30-something. Hattie’s friend, similar attitude, similar characteristics – Betty Hutton role. Character singer to a C.

Mac:

Ageless; grizzled local bartender. Character baritone.

Vivian Budd:

English butler/valet/nanny – chaperones/cares for Jerry – figure of fun – nicknamed “Storky”. Character voice

The roles below have significant acting “beats” but can be drawn from a relatively wide vocal range:

Leila Tree: Admiral’s daughter; 20s; somewhat stiff/proper

Mildred Hunter: Comparable in age; style; BUT she’s a SPY!!!

Kitty-Belle Randolph: Comparable to the two above BUT her father runs the Canal Zone.

Whitney Randolph: Old enough to be Kitty-Belle’s dad; pompous; proper; Nick’s Boss

Mrs. Gonzales: Young enough to have a young child, may be from ensemble

Chiquita: Local “hot tamale” – Carmen Miranda-type.

THREE WISHES FOR JAMIE

From 1952, starred John Raitt; Anne Jeffries; Charlotte Rae. Songs: The Girl That I Court in My Mind; Love Has Nothing to Do With Looks.


Seeking:

Jamie McRuin:

20s-30s; traditional leading man-type; hard-working but a dreamer – John Raitt role. Tenor or very high baritone - legit, not pop sound

Owen Roe Tavish:

50s+; charming/blarney-thrower; heart of gold) character baritone. (Bert Wheeler had very bright forward sound)

Maeve Harrigan:

20s-30s; pretty/spunky Irish lass – Anne Jeffreys role. Soprano - legit sound, but not very high - strong midrange

Tirsa Shanahan:

20s-30s; ungainly/unattractive girl everyone leaves behind; not a cartoon but can be laughed at AND taken seriously – Charlotte Rae role. Soprano

Tim Shanahan:

40s-50s; her father; relatively prosperous; hard-worker who wants his girl married almost more than anything. Mature legit baritone (or bass-baritone)

The roles below have significant acting “beats” but can be drawn from a relatively wide vocal range:

Shiel Harrigan: 40s-50s; her father and strong/silent community leader

Power O'Malley: 30s-40s; the first of the extended family in the “new world”

Dennis O'Ryan: 20s-30s; hot-tempered rejected suitor of Maeve

Bridgie Quinn/Aunt Bid: 40s-50s; these women are so similar we might write them in as cousins; the former appears only in I-1; the later in all of Act II; spinsters but loyal, loving family/clan members.

Randal Devlin: 20s-30s; rejected suitor of Maeve

Father Kerrigan: 40s-50s; the Atlanta priest that tends to all spiritual needs

Kevin McRuin: 8-10; the adopted son of Jamie/Maeve; will have to speak in Gaelic.

Sheriff Haines: any age; can come from ensemble

Kate McRuin: 30s; the hard-working sister Jamie leaves behind; can probably come from ensemble

Jess Proddy: 30s; the absent father of Kevin
