As maddening as it is joyful, the subject of family is never devoid of great stories. When entrusting the subject to some of contemporary theater’s most dynamic storytellers, what results is a thrilling tapestry of many colors. Utterly unpredictable, “Motherhood Out Loud” shatters traditional notions about parenthood, unveils its inherent comedy and celebrates the deeply personal truths that span generations. Leading playwrights of our time breathe humor and honesty into every story, giving an illuminating voice to the adventure of raising a child.

Seeking (all roles are available):

Female Actor A:

Track age: mid 30s – mid 40s. Actress plays a variety of women/mothers including a fifth-time mother, the odd mom on the playground with the cool diaper bag who smokes, the mother of an adopted Chinese daughter, a mother taking her daughter to buy her first bra, the mother in law who is attending her daughter in law’s wedding dress fitting even though she wasn’t invited, and a young mother experiencing birth for the first time.

Female Actor B:

Track age: early – mid 40s. Actress plays a variety of women/moms including a first-time mom, a woman who receives advice on “squeezing and holding” from her mother, a Muslim mother, the mom who is too loud for her daughter, a mom whose son is in Afghanistan, and a Southern 12-year-old great granddaughter.

Female Actor C:

Track age: early – mid 50s. Actress plays a variety of women/mothers including a third-time mother, the perky playground mom, a Jewish mother who is proud of her son even when he dresses as Queen Esther, a strange kid, a mother who teaches her daughter how to put a condom on a banana, a stepmom, the mother of the valedictorian, and an ancient Southern great grandmother.

Male Actor D:

Track age: early 40s. Among other characters, actor plays a gay dad and a divorced man living with his mother.
