Lamb's Players Theatre believes every story is richer when our stages reflect our whole community. We welcome performers of all backgrounds, identities, ages, and abilities to audition for every role, unless otherwise required by the script.

PREPARATION

Please prepare one of the following: two 32-bar song cuts; two monologues, each under 1-minute; or one 32-bar cut and one monologue under 1-minute. An accompanist will be provided; bring sheet music in your key, marked with starts, stops, and tempos, and one hard-copy headshot and resume.

Directions: The auditions will be held in Suite 200C on the third floor of the Bank of America Building at the corner of Orange and B Ave. (the entrance is on B Ave.) Enter the stairwell through the glass door and take the elevator to the 3rd floor. Exit the elevator, turn right and go past the Coronado Shores office to the studio entrance.

Parking: Street parking on Orange Avenue has a two-hour limit during the day. The residential side streets nearby have no time limit. Coronado can be busy, so leave extra time to find a spot.

SYNOPSIS: Cleveland, 1945. Donny Novitski returns from the Pacific and builds a swing band of fellow veterans to win a national radio contest, and finds that the music carries what none of them can say aloud.

Content: War and its aftermath, including combat trauma, grief, and references to the liberation of Dachau and a German POW camp. Alcohol use. Some strong language. 1940s period hair styling; any change to hair color or style will be discussed at callbacks.

SEEKING:

DONNY NOVITSKI: Mid-20s. Baritone/Tenor, Bb2–Bb4. Piano. Pianist, songwriter, and bandleader, home from the Pacific with star quality and a weight he never puts into words. Role content: Combat trauma, survivor's guilt.

JULIA TROJAN: Mid-20s. Soprano with belt, G3–F#5. A singer of rare honesty, a war widow with no ambition to be a star and a voice that tells the truth. Role content: Grief and loss.

MRS. JUNE ADAMS: Mid-40s to mid-50s. Alto, G3–B4. Julia's mother. Anxious, eager to please, unexpectedly funny, and unbending where her daughter's happiness is concerned.

WAYNE WRIGHT: Late 20s to late 30s. High Baritone, C3–Bb4. Trombone. Marine lieutenant whose war lives on as obsessive-compulsive order and an intimidating silence. Role content: Combat trauma; depicts obsessive-compulsive behavior.

JIMMY CAMPBELL: Late 20s to mid-30s. Baritone, C3–G#4. Sax and clarinet. Navy veteran now in law school. Careful, guarded, fiercely loyal.

JOHNNY SIMPSON: Mid-20s to late 30s. High Baritone, B2–G#4. Drums. Army private living with chronic back pain, medication, and memory loss from a head injury. Gentle, plainspoken, and a phenomenal drummer. Role content: This role depicts a person living with chronic pain and the effects of a traumatic brain injury.

DAVY ZLATIC: Late 20s to early 40s. Baritone, B2–F#4. Upright bass. Army veteran who was at the liberation of Dachau. A big man with big appetites, a steady stream of jokes, and a drink always in reach. The clown who is also the protector. Role content: Holocaust references; heavy drinking.

NICK RADEL: Late 20s to early 40s. Baritone, B2–F4. Trumpet. Army veteran who spent the end of the war in a German POW camp. Brilliant, prickly, and certain the world is trying to shortchange him. Role content: POW trauma.

YVETTE: 30s–50s. The French maid, loyal and alluring, with ambitions of her own.

MISS SCARLET: 30s–50s. A dry, sardonic Washington madam who trades in secrets.

MRS. PEACOCK: 30s–50s. The senator's wife. Quirky and near-hysterical much of the time.

MRS. WHITE: 30s–50s. Pale, morbid, tragic. Five ex-husbands, all dead. She may or may not know why.

COLONEL MUSTARD: 30s–50s. Pompous, dense, and loud. A military man who has never once been in a hurry to think.

PROFESSOR PLUM: 30s–50s. Arrogant, academic, and deeply impressed with himself.

MR. GREEN: 20s–50s. Timid, officious, a rule follower with a nervous system to match.

WOMAN #1: 30s–50s. The Cook, the Singing Telegram Girl, and Auxiliary Scarlet.

MAN #1: 30s–50s. Mr. Boddy, the Motorist, and the Chief of Police.

MAN #2: 30s–50s. The Cop, the Backup Cop, and Auxiliary Mustard.

SYNOPSIS: An experience built on yacht rock, the smoothest music ever recorded, best enjoyed with an ocean breeze and a sweater tied over your shoulders. Think Michael McDonald and the Doobie Brothers, Hall & Oates, Christopher Cross, Kenny Loggins, Toto, Steely Dan, Ambrosia, Boz Scaggs, Seals & Crofts, Player, Firefall, Robbie Dupree, Gerry Rafferty, Nicolette Larson, Brenda Russell, Billy Ocean, Bill Withers, and every artist who ever sang about the sea with a glass of white wine in hand. The audience comes aboard for the night as we cruise out of Coronado.

Content: Bar setting with references to alcohol.

SEEKING:

THE CAPTAIN (head of the ship): Unhurried, in charge. The voice that welcomes the house aboard and closes the night.

THE FIRST OFFICER (second in command): Runs the bridge so the Captain can run the party. Ambitious, precise, one promotion from insufferable.

THE PURSER (CFO / head of guest services, head concierge): Handles the ship's money and the guests. First stop for anything a passenger needs.

THE DOCTOR (head of health & wellness): Calm in a crisis and unbothered by everything else. A sly sense of what everyone aboard is really up to.

THE BARTENDER: The Lido Deck's philosopher. Mixes drinks and slow jams.

THE CRUISE DIRECTOR (head of activities): Clipboard, whistle, relentless enthusiasm. Runs the evening and keeps everyone on time.

SYNOPSIS: New York, 1958. Mark Rothko takes on the largest commission in modern art and hires a young assistant who dares to ask what the work is meant to do.

Content: Depression and mental anguish; a character recounts the violent death of his parents. Onstage smoking and drinking. Strong language. Physically demanding painting sequences with paint on skin and costume.

SEEKING:

KEN: 20s to early 30s. Rothko's new young assistant. An aspiring painter, nervous and awestruck at first, who grows into the one person willing to ask Rothko what the work is meant to do. Carries a traumatic past that surfaces late in the play. Role content: Recounts the violent death of his parents; physically demanding painting sequences.
