Please be sure to include a slate (your name, name of play/musical and character of the piece/s you will be performing).
Please prepare appropriate material of your choosing, which may be a monologue or a side from one or more of the season’s shows (see note about script availability under Other) and/or a brief song. Monologues should be no longer than 2 minutes; songs should be one brief selection or 2 brief selections in contrasting styles totaling no longer than 2 minutes. Fabulation or, The Re-Education of Undine

UNDINE: Female, mid 30s – mid 40s, African American. Born in the Walt Whitman projects of Brooklyn, she’s re-invented herself as a successful public relations professional.
FLOW / OTHERS (AS CAST): Undine’s brother, African American. A hipster with a tatty Afro and goatee, with the habit of speaking a bit too loudly. Has been writing an epic poem about Brer Rabbit for years. May double as Agent Duva, Rapper, Drug Dealer, Mover, Addict, Applicant.
MOTHER / OTHERS (AS CAST): Undine’s mother, African American. Works as a security guard at Long Island University. May double as Allison, Rosa, Inmate #2, Addict, Applicant.
ACCOUNTANT / OTHERS (AS CAST): An elegantly-clad Caucasian man in his mid-thirties. May double as Addict #1, Mover, Applicant, Doctor #2.
HERVÉ / GUY / OTHERS (AS CAST): Male, Latino. Hervé --Undine’s husband. An Argentinian con man with the grace of a flamenco dancer. Guy -- a recovering addict making the most of sobriety. Works as a security guard but is preparing to take the fireman’s exam. May double as Lance.
STEPHIE / OTHERS (AS CAST): A spacy twenty-something, African American. Undine’s assistant, she later gets a job at Duane Reade, where she struggles to not become employee-of-the-month every month. May double as Counselor, Devora, Pregnant Woman, Applicant.
FATHER / OTHERS (AS CAST): ROLE CAST. Undine’s father, African American. Works as a security guard at Long Island University. Believes the impossible is possible. May double as Babalawo, Gregory, Applicant.
GRANDMA / OTHERS (AS CAST): Undine’s grandmother, African American. All warmth and care, she came to New York with nothing, got her high school diploma, worked two jobs, and raised five beautiful children. Now addicted to heroin. May double as Doctor Khdair, Inmate #1, Case Worker.
The Play That Goes Wrong

CHRIS: (Male, 25 - 35, any ethnicity) High status clown. Rigid, uptight, everything really matters. He is the director of the show and this is the biggest day of his life. Everything is riding on this. It is a nerve wracking and exciting night. His pain is evident and every time someone laughs the pain deepens. He has equal amounts of contempt for his fellow actors & the audience watching the play. RP ACCENT.
ROBERT: (Male, 25 - 35, any ethnicity) Wants to be Richard Burton, as evidenced by his declamatory style. He is, however, not a parody of a bad actor. He is unaware of others around him. He does not feel badly when things go wrong and never learns from his mistakes. There is a power struggle between Robert and Chris to be president of the Cornley Poly Drama Society (a position that matters a great deal to Robert). Has real vocal power. RP ACCENT.
MAX: (Male, 25 - 35, any ethnicity) He has never been on stage before. He learned his lines and does exactly what he's told to do. He has zero connection with any of the other actors, but when he gets a laugh he breaks the 4th wall and engages with the audience. Childlike and naïve. His mistakes are fundamental. He doesn't think anything through, just looks for approval. RP ACCENT.
DENNIS: (Male, 25 - 35, any ethnicity) He has no real desire to be involved in the theatre, he just wants to make friends (of which he has none). He believes if he does well in the show, he will be more successful socially. Laughter from the audience is agony for him. He may be slightly oblivious but understands when he gets things wrong. The laughter is a personal tragedy/failure. RP ACCENT.
TREVOR: (Male, 25 - 35, any ethnicity) The play’s lighting and sound operator. He simply wants to get on with the show. Curmudgeonly and doesn’t care for actors. He is easily distracted and does many things he shouldn’t, including engaging with the audience. When things go really sideways, he is forced to act in the play. He hates acting. STANDARD AMERICAN ACCENT.
JONATHAN: (Male, 25 - 35, any ethnicity) A bit bland, but sees himself as a James Bond type. Excited and having fun, but not naïve. He technically has to drive the show. He cares about the play, but not to the same extent as the others. Very physical character. RP ACCENT.
SANDRA: (Female, 25 - 35, any ethnicity) She is vain and possess a huge ego. Wants to be loved. Has ambitions to go to Hollywood and will hurt anyone standing in the way of what she wants but is smart enough to stay on the good side of someone who can help her (like the director). You know the type. The stakes are high for her. Very physical character. RP ACCENT.
ANNIE: (Female, 25 - 35, any ethnicity) The stage manager. She has the biggest journey of any of the characters. When Sandra is indisposed Annie, who cannot bear to be on stage, must step in. Initially terrified by acting, she is willing to kill for it by the end of the play. Her initial terror turns to joy, and then to fury. She starts small but grows and grows. STANDARD AMERICAN ACCENT.

When forced to hide in the convent, she initially refuses to embrace her new lifestyle but learns to embrace it when she works with the choir. Loud-mouthed, and sassy, but ultimately caring. MOTHER SUPERIOR: The head of the convent, sarcastic and a bit stiff. Extremely protective about keeping her sisters away from the outside world, which puts her in direct opposition to Deloris and her musical teachings. Gender: female-identified, Age: 50 to 70. Vocal range top: E5. Vocal range bottom: D3.
SISTER MARY ROBERT: A postulant, abandoned as a baby and raised at the convent. Shy and soft-spoken but singing with Deloris lets her find her voice. Her wallflower lifestyle has made her live a shell of a life. Gender: female-identified, Age: 16 to 25. Vocal range top: A5. Vocal range bottom: F#3.
SISTER MARY PATRICK: A nun of the convent. Consistently perky, enthusiastic, and easily excitable. Gender: female-identified, Age: 35 to 50.

EDDIE SOUTHER: The desk chief at the Philadelphia police station and a high school classmate of Deloris who helps get her into hiding.
