Seeking:
Tex:
AVAILABLE ROLE. Man, 40s/50s. Big presence. Somewhat jaded journalist with a drawl and a healthy cynicism about his profession. An old-school reporter, but has a soft spot for Jane and Annabelle. Actor must be able to have a convincing drawl.
Hank:
AVAILABLE ROLE. 40s/50s. Tex’s main ally in the press camp. Fighting a losing battle against boredom, and has no qualms about fabricating reports if he needs to make deadline.
Leonard:
AVAILABLE ROLE. British, 30s. Bookish type. Uptight younger reporter in the press camp. Ambitious, very serious about his work, and a little bit of a careerist. Nevertheless, he is clearly star-struck in Daphne’s presence.
Drake:
AVAILABLE ROLE. British gent, 40s/50s. “Slightly plump”. The conducting officer for the press camp. A little bit pompous, but generally congenial and harmless, except for his complete lack of a sense of direction.
The following roles are cast. Auditioning performers will be considered as possible (emergency) replacements, should any become necessary.
Jane:
CAST. 30s/early 40s. Leading lady-type, described as “blonde and slender”. Savvy veteran reporter who knows how to handle herself in the rough-and-tumble, chauvinistic world of war correspondents.
Annabelle:
CAST. 30s/early 40s. Leading lady-type. Brunette, long hair. Another female correspondent, close friend of Jane’s. Sometimes more flighty than Jane, and a little bit more prone to romantic, impulse decisions.
Daphne:
CAST. 22. Blonde, ingénue type. Daphne is an actress working with ENSA (the British USO equivalent). Initially comes across as an ingénue, but proves to have a keen instinct for getting ahead in show business.
Rogers:
CAST. 40s. Dark-haired, tall, handsome, rugged. Most famous of the correspondents; a bit of a peacock, with an ego of considerable size. Said to be charming on the outside, but “with the character of a cobra.”
Philip:
CAST. British, 40s+. “Wolfish good looks”. British officer in charge of the press camp. Has some rather quaint and old-fashioned notions of chivalry. Believes Jane and Annabelle need to be protected from the war, and from themselves. A true gentleman.
Cramp:
CAST. 30s/40s. Philip’s personal attendant. Cramp becomes an indispensable ally for Jane and Annabelle, and does his best to make them comfortable despite the rather unfavorable conditions. Comic character role.
Dick:
CAST. 30s. Tall, dashing, all-American look. High-ranking officer in the Air Force. Clearly smitten with Annabelle, and willing to fly her to Poland for a story. Charming fellow who just can’t understand why these nice girls want to put themselves in harm’s way.
