BREAKDOWN

** All actors must be very funny with a quick wit and an ear for Simon's comedic patter.**

Jay Kurnitz (Male, 16) – Older brother to Arty. A young 16. Homesick. Still very sad that his beloved mom has passed. He like his brother gets through life with a joke and a laugh. He is keenly aware that his family is nuts but loves them all the same.

Arthur Kurnitz (Male, 13 ½) – 13 years old. A real wiseacre. Tough and sad. Like his brother he is still in mourning for his mom's death. He gets through the dark side of life with a laugh and adores his family and in particular his older brother.

Eddie Kurnitz (Male, 41) – 41, a sad single dad with severe comedic anxiety. A real softy in a harsh world. He loves his kids dearly and hates to make the sacrifice of giving them up but he is in a jam with loan sharks so he risks everything to pay the loan back. He is terrified of his mother but loves the rest of his family.

Bella (Female 30s) – Pretty, dim witted, sweet, childlike and childish. Terrified of her mother but finds her voice in the course of the play. Actor must be able to play slightly touched legitimately and still be very funny. Keen timing is vital to the characterization. A true comic clown. Bold and daring actor needed.

Louie (Male, 36) – What you think of when you say mobster. Louie has great style and wit. Terrific with language. Funny and scary. Tough as nails. Actor must reek of 40's period movies. Good looking and dangerous.

Grandma Kurnitz (Female, 70) – THIS ROLE IS CAST.

Aunt Gert (Female mid to late 30s) – THIS ROLE IS CAST.
