Seeking (all roles are available):

Rhiannon:

Seeking actress 18+ to play age 14. Daughter of Alice (who is Caucasian) and Lucas (any ethnicity). Combats her parents with a teenager’s frustration. Inquisitive and sarcastic, an emo/indie-type. Tries to be tough and hard, but ultimately she is playful, and in the end quite vulnerable. Good comedic timing and impulses.

Bashir:

Pakistani man, 50. Alice’s former detainee at Guantanamo Bay, now maneuvering to get what he wants from her. Brooder with a dark soul, but also capable of profound wonder and buoyancy. Suffered greatly in his past, and is now suffering from illness and the knowledge he was wronged.

Alice:

Caucasian. 25, then 40. Texan. Alternates between GI Jane and neighborhood florist. Violent and scary in one scene, and tranquil and domestic in the next. Has used her sexuality as a weapon, but knows how to keep it in her holster. Has been denying parts of her past, but through the course of the play, comes to understand and release those suppressed aspects of herself.

Riva / Bashir’s Daughter:

Riva: Iraqi-Assyrian woman, now Texan. 25, then 40. Speaks English and Arabic. Has the cool air of a practiced doctor, but she’s hiding a fire smoldering underneath. Identifies as American, but understands the Arab world better than she cares to remember. Actress also plays Bashir’s Daughter in the final scene, and must be capable of playing sweet innocence.

Lucas:

40, any ethnicity. Northern California hippie who used to be a drug addict—there’s a touch of grunge beneath his new-age surface. Practices tai chi, meditation, yoga. Charming, though there is a deep sadness under his newfound and forced optimism. Takes care to let people know he loves them, and in return he needs to know he is loved.
