KIM’S CONVENIENCE

Seeking:

APPA (DAD) (Male, 59 years old, 1st generation Korean-Canadian): The owner of ‘Kim’s Convenience Store', who is searching for his replacement to take over the family business. He is a gruff, undemonstrative traditionalist who loves his family. Fluent in Korean, and speaks English with a Korean accent.

UMMA (MOM) (Female, 56 years old, 1st generation Korean-Canadian): Married to Appa. As dutiful wife and mother, she struggles to mend her broken family while balancing her own happiness. Fluent in Korean, and speaks English with a Korean accent.

JANET (Female, 30 years old, 2nd generation Korean-Canadian): Daughter of Appa and Umma. Though she is unmarried and still lives at home, she is thoroughly assimilated, with dreams of a career in photography. Speaks some Korean with her parents.

JUNG (Male, 32 years old, 2nd generation Korean-Canadian): He is the son of Appa and Umma, with a 2-month-old son. Ran away from home at 16 and hasn’t spoken to his father since. Adulthood has not been good to him.

RICH/MR. LEE/MIKE/ALEX (Male, 30s, Black): Has character dexterity, great comedic timing, and experience with dialects.

LOVE AMONG THE RUINS

Based on the Emmy award-winning George Cukor film starring Katharine Hepburn and Laurence Olivier. When London’s greatest barrister agrees to defend a beautiful former West End star in a sensational breach of promise case, he's incensed that she apparently doesn't remember that they once fell madly and passionately in love decades ago. But as it appears that they might lose the case -- their courtroom theatrics become a battle of wits and wills and the unbreakable power of love.

SEEKING:

No roles will be understudied.

[SIR GEORGE DRUISE] Male, 60s, any ethnicity, possibly South Asian. Sir Arthur’s associate and close friend, he’s a straight-laced, by-the-book and dependable solicitor who introduces Jessica to Sir Arthur. British accent.

[SIR JOHN FRANCIS DIVINE] Male, 40s. This cheeky man is the lawyer for the prosecution, with a regular guy personality and easygoing sense of humor that hides his toughness and cleverness, but appeals to juries. British accent. (Although the character is written as Anglo-Irish, he may be played as any ethnicity.)

[ALFRED PRATT] Male, late 20s – 35, any ethnicity. Very handsome in his full-dress officer’s uniform, he is a well-spoken young man who claims that he was engaged to be married to Jessica, and is suing her for breach of promise for a huge amount of money. He insists that their relationship was a love match that has nothing to do with her money. He represents himself as a by-the-book officer who is only interested in doing the right thing. British accent.

[FANNY PRATT] Female, 55 – 70, any ethnicity. This low-born Cockney woman, with a spontaneous delivery, is Alfred’s mother, who takes the witness stand to testify about how loving her son and Jessica were around one another. She’s coarse and ill-spoken, but her testimony hits home with the jury. Cockney accent.

[HERMIONE DAVIS] Female, late 20s – early 30s, all ethnicity. She’s Jessica’s loyal and compassionate young employee, who has run the household for several years. She’s nervous when she takes the witness stand and initially claims that she remembers nothing about Jessica and Alfred’s interactions. British accent.

[JUDGE PHILLIP TANDY] Male, 55 – 65, any ethnicity. This no-nonsense judge presides over the breach of promise trial. He runs a tight courtroom, with little patience for anything off the track, but is sometimes hard-pressed to pull Sir Arthur out of his state of state of abstraction. British accent.

[BAILIFF] Male, 40s, any ethnicity. This bailiff keeps order in the courtroom, but without the level of authority of certainty that the Judge brings to the courtroom. He reads back Fanny Pratt’s testimony for the disbelieving Sir Arthur. British accent.

[HERBERT] Male, 50 – 60, all ethnicity. He is Sir Arthur’s protective, efficient and dedicated valet. British accent.
