PREPARATION

Bring 2 short songs (one verse & one chorus) in the style of the show. (You may be asked to sing only one.) OK to sing from the show. Bring music book. Sides available at www.sc4a.org/msw/ or ellen@sc4a.org.

BREAKDOWN

KINKY BOOTS: Seeking pricipals and ensemble actors/singers/dancers. The show takes place in Great Brittan. All actors must have excellent British dialects

Lola/Simon, Male 25-35 (African American) A prize fighter draped in satin. He is a heterosexual cross dresser…eccentric, lavish & outspoken. Comfortable in full drag to just boxing trunks. Power blues & gospel chops. High tenor… Sings C3–B4 with one top C. Must move extremely well in high-heels, wigs and women’s clothing.

Charlie Price, Male 25-35 A confused young man who inherits his father’s shoe factory. He’s unfocused and misguided but is a hero under a victim’s mantle. He is handsome and loveable but there is a temper right under the skin. High tenor rock belt. Sings C3–B4

Young Charlie, Male 7-10 A joyous young chap, the younger version of our main character. He is lost, quiet and unsure. He appears in the opening and closing sequences of the show. Must be able to sing.

Young Simon, Male 10 (African American) This is Lola/Simon as a 10-year-old boy. Inquisitive and not shy, he knows his destiny at an early age. Actor must be comfortable wearing women’s high heels. Appears in the opening and closing sequences of the show. Must be able to sing.

Nicola/Others, Female 25-35, Charlie’s long-term girlfriend. Attractive and smart. She is driven and uncompromising. High pop belt.

Lauren, Female 25-35, A beautiful, strong and outspoken working-class girl. She works in the shoe factory and has a huge crush on Charlie. Must be a strong comedic actress with a high pop belt. Sings B♭3–F♯5

Don/Others, Male, 30-40 A hypermasculine bear of a factory worker and Lola’s nemesis. He has a menacing physicality but ends up being a teddy bear. Sings C3–F4 (must have a strong falsetto to D5 for the Finale)

Pat/Others, Female, 30-40 The shoe factory’s officious office manager who will let loose when given the chance. Lola’s love interest.

Trish/Others, Female 45-55 Factory worker with a family to worry about. Old school and set in her ways…a bit of a broad…but comes around in the end.

Angels, Males 20 -30 (All Ethnicities) These are the drag personalities that populate The Blue Angel night club in London. Must be excellent dancers in heels and be able to sing extremely well (high pop). Previous drag experience helpful but not necessary. Acrobatics a plus.

Male Ensemble, (All Ethnicities including one African American male for the track that includes Lola’s/Simon’s father). Must move well in a heeled boot as all characters end up in boots at the end of the show. Roles include George, Mr. Price, Harry (guitar a plus), Simon Sr. and Richard Bailey.

Female Ensemble (All Ethnicities including one African American woman for the track that includes Lola’s double). Must move well in a heeled boot as all characters end up in boots at the end of the show.

LEGALLY BLONDE: THE MUSICAL: Seeking principals and ensemble actors/singers/dancers. The show uses two live dogs (a Chihuahua and a Bull Dog). All actors must be comfortable around dogs. If you have allergies or sensitivities to these animals, please use your best judgement prior to auditioning.

Elle Woods, Female 20 -25 (Gb2-G5 Pop Belt) A Malibu socialite and fashionista extraordinaire. Effervescent college girl (homecoming queen, Delta Nu president) who follows her boyfriend to Harvard Law School & realizes she's more than just a pretty face. She is lovable, determined, vulnerable, energetic and outgoing. A true triple threat (tap dance skills are a plus).

Emmett Forrest, Male 20 – 30 (B2-A4 Tenor) Professor Callahan’s teaching assistant. He is smart, quirky, sensitive and personable. Believes in Elle. A bit scruffy but doesn't care. A strong singer/actor with great comedic timing.

Paulette Buonofuonte, Female 35-45 (A3-A5 Pop Belt) Owner of Hair Affair, a local salon. Bit of a tacky bombshell with hair and clothes that make a statement, but insecure. Must be comfortable with dogs, must be willing to be kissed on stage. Strong comic timing. Bostonian accent is a plus

Professor Callahan, Male 40 – 50 (A2-F#4 Baritone) A pompous and manipulative Criminal Law professor at Harvard. Must be comfortable with a stage kiss, however awkward. Charismatic but able to turn to a conniving shark instantly.

Warner Huntington III, Male 20-25 (Eb3-Ab4 Tenor) Elle’s college boyfriend. Warner is attractive and charming but very self-absorbed. He will do whatever it takes to achieve his dream of becoming a senator by age 30, including breaking Elle's heart.

Vivienne Kensington/Others, Female 20-25 (A3-F5 High Pop Belt) Warner’s new Blueblood girlfriend. Vivienne is an overachieving, stuck-up, wealthy, smart and savvy Harvard Law student who is intellectually driven. Feels threatened by Elle but becomes an allly. Also plays other smaller roles.

Brooke Wyndham/Others, Female 25-35 (A3-G5 Alto or Soprano) Brooke is an exercise video star and former Delta Nu sorority girl who was accused of murder. Must be physically fit with strong ability to do high-level aerobics wilst singing. Be prepared to jump rope while singing during your audition. Also plays a few supporting roles in first act.

Female Ensemble: (7 women) All ensemble women will play multiple roles, so versatility is extremely important. All must dance and/or move extremely well. (Acrobatics a plus) Pilar/Margot/Serena/Others - Females 20 -25 Any ethniciity (G#3-F5 Belt) Sorority girls and Elle's entourage and Greek Chorus, ranging from sassy to cutesy - boy crazy and fashion icons at UCLA, stong comedic timing. Enid Hoops/Kate/Chutney Wyndham/Others - Females 20 -25 Any ethnicity (G3-G5 Soprano Belt/Bb3-Eb5 Alto) Enid is a strong & opinionated ex-Peace Corps volunteer & proud Harvard Law student; Kate is the Delta Nu scholastic chair, the bookworm; Chutney is Brooke Wyndham’s jealous step-daughter. Elle’s Mom/Others - Female 35-45 Any ethnicity, A wealthy Malibu socialite, other roles include store manager, sales woman & District Attorney.

Male Ensemble: (6 men) All ensemble men will play multiple roles, so versatility is extremely important. All must dance and/or move extremely well. Kyle/Dewey/Grand Master Chad/Others - Male 25-35 Any ethnicity (D3 – G4 High Baritone) Kyle is a physically fit smooth-talking UPS deliveryman and Paulette's dream guy; Dewey is Paulette's low-life ex. Elle’s Dad/Winthrop/Reporter/Others - Male 40-50 (D3 – G4 Baritone) Dad is a high society golfer from Malibu; other roles include head of Harvard admissions and the reporter. Sundeep Padamadan/Aaron Schultz/Nicos Argitakos/Carlos/Others - Males 20-30 Any ethnicity, characters range from smug, royal Harvard law students, self-proclaimed geniuses to fun-loving pool boys. Featured in The Harvard Variations. Play several other roles. Acrobatics a plus.
