ABOUT
I AM MY OWN WIFE tells the inspiring true story of Charlotte von Mahlsdorf. As an openly transgender woman, she bravely survives both the Nazi and Communist regimes of East Germany with her unique mix of strength, savvy and grace.

Character:
CHARLOTTE von MAHLSDORF: AMAB (Assigned male at birth), Trans-Feminine. Any ethnicity. Charlotte is a German trans woman in her 60s who has lived through WWII and the Communist government of East Germany. She is a survivor who is determined to live by her own truth and create her own reality. An adventurous, open-hearted, risk taker. A lover of life, mischief and fun, she has created a secret cabaret in her home for LGBTQ folx as well as making her home a living museum for furniture others had to leave behind. This actor will also perform 30+ other roles of varying gender identities. and the changes are between characters are made through changes in the tonal quality and pitch of the actor’s voice, and through their stance, posture, and their repository of gestures. Versatility with playing multiple characters and facility with a German dialect, German language and other dialects a must.
