Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and anti-racism: Artistry Theater is grateful to be creating theater again with and for our community. In this re-opening season, we are mindful of the events of the past two years - what we have lost and what we have learned. We are committed to creating a more inclusive and equitable space for all to see themselves in the magic of this art form we love. We are putting practices into place to make sure we are safe, have room to be brave and to create space that is intentional in its diversity and accessibility. Over the years Artistry has worked towards this commitment but we are aware that we have fallen short. To that end, we have added ongoing training and assessment from the board level to staff, production teams and ushers. We are creating opportunities for listening sessions with our alumni theater-makers to learn how we can continue to build upon the good work that was being done and to help us avoid the missteps and pitfalls that will set us back. We are committed to becoming a more anti-racist and equitable organization and invite you to join us on this journey.

Seeking:

All characters will make up a diverse ensemble across ethnicity, gender identity, and ability.

Jesus - Tenor- Db4-G#5 - The most charismatic individual in the cast. High energy, charming, funny, gentle but with strength. Sort of the person others instinctively follow.

John the Baptist/Judas - Baritone - C4-E5 - Has the attributes of both biblical figures. Both Jesus’ lieutenant and most ardent disciple and the doubter who begins to question and rebel. Like Jesus, this character is also charismatic, but in more of an overt revolutionary way. The most “serious” and intellectual of the group but does possess a good sense of physical comedy.

Nick - Tenor - E4-F#5 -(D6) - Very high energy and playful. Note: In the original, the actor played several musical instruments, including concertina, recorder, and guitar.

Telly - Tenor - D4-A5 - Perhaps a little aloof, but there is a great sweetness and innocence. Strong vocalist.

George - Tenor - G#4-G5 -(E6) - The comedian, the class clown.

Anna Maria - Alto - C4-A4 - Open and sweet. Perhaps the youngest of the group. The first of the group to commit to follow Jesus in the song “Day By Day”.

Lindsay - Soprano - B3-C#6 - The confident one, the show-off. The first one to volunteer, sometimes jumping in before understanding what’s going on.

Uzo - Alto - A3-F#4 - Very shy. Sometimes passive, but once on board, this character commits all the way. Has a nurturing warmth.

Morgan - Alto - (E3) A3-F5 - Sassy and slightly cynical. The most “provoking” follower that contains a large element of put-on in the manner of Mae West or Madonna (who, in fact, once played this role).

Celisse - Mezzo Soprano - A3-A5 - Another class clown; goofy and a cut-up. Note: In the 2012 revival this actor played several instruments, including conga, ukulele, and guitar.
