Note: This play addresses the civilized and the savage that resides in us all.
[ALAN RALEIGH] Male, 35 – 45, any ethnicity. An obsessed, driven corporate lawyer for a big pharmaceutical company, in a high stress consuming job, can appear ruthless. Under the cool exterior he sees himself as a primitive warrior with little regard for the trivial action that has brought this group together.
[ANNETTE RALEIGH] Female, 35 – 45, any ethnicity. Works in wealth management, accustomed to using her femininity as a tool (little girl voice sometimes), nervous stomach, high-strung, more conciliatory. Very protective after a certain line is crossed and her “mother lioness” is aroused. As the evening progresses, a darker side appears.
[MICHAEL NOVAK] Male, 35 – 45, any ethnicity. The son of a working class family, but worked hard to attain a level of wealth and position, and married well. In this neighborhood he can appear a bit rough around the edges. More comfortable having a beer with his working class laborers. He is more the peacekeeper looking for a quick resolution.
[VERONICA NOVAK] Female, 35 – 45, any ethnicity. An ambitious, intellectual writer of books on African art and politics. Enjoys her knowledge about the finer things in life: cuisine, décor, she’s an expert. Not afraid to speak her mind or to take control of a conversation. But she is only human and all this effort is exhausting. She is uptight, resolute and firm but tries to appear calm and easy going but has a more sensitive side and a darker side as well.
