BREAKDOWN

2018-19

The Fantasticks
Book and Lyrics by: Tom Jones
Music by: Harvey Schmidt
Artistic Director/Director: Eric Davis
Musical Director: Michael Raabe

Rehearses: August 28th – September 21st, 2018
Previews: September 21st & 22nd, 2018
Runs: September 22nd – October 21st, 2018 (6 shows per week)
(possible extension through October 28th, 2018)

Breakdown:

El Gallo (Male, High Baritone, 35-55) ROLE IS CAST (only seeking possible replacements) As the narrator of the piece, he is the liaison between the audience and the action onstage. He is warm, cordial, and inviting to the audience, yet with darker moments. His attitude toward the rest of the cast reveals a decidedly mysterious side. Above all he is grand and must command attention.

Matt (Male, Baritone, 18-26) As a young lover, he is deeply in love, particularly with the idea of being in love. He lacks experience in the world so, while not stupid, he is nai ve and perhaps even foolish at times. His image of a young man in love is one of a gallant protector, meaning that he approaches some decisions with a falsified bravery that is little more than bravado. Would prefer people with puppeteering experience (but will train). Any ethnicity.

Luisa (Female, Legit Soprano, 18-26) As a young lover, she is in love. She is in love with love, the idea of love, the idea of being in love and indeed everything remotely romantic. Her dreams are more fanciful than those of Matt. Because of her particular vision of romance, she deals with the world on a particularly naive level. Must sing up to a C and be able to sustain a B. Would prefer people with puppeteering experience (but will train). Any ethnicity

Hucklebee and Bellomy (Open to all genders, Must play piano 35 -50) ONE ROLE IS CAST. Blustery and Boisterous. Duo and team. Strong comedic timing a must. Fathers/Mothers of Matt and Luisa. Always arguing and bickering, but secretly plotting together for the marriage of their children. SPECIFICALLY SEEKING ACTORS WHO PLAY PIANO – Any ethnicity, any gender

Henry and Mortimer (Males, Seeking a ventriloquist, 30-60) Foolish comic actors who move the action while not seeming to contribute anything of substance. As performers their day has long past. Henry can play grand characters and recite Shakespeare, but with very little success these days. May be asked to speak in an English accent. Mortimer’s specialty is dying on stage in the manner of great adventures and melodramas. May be asked to speak in a cockney accent. Henry and Mortimer function as a
unit and rarely appear apart from each other. They are entirely theatrical and theirs is the world of the stage. Any ethnicity

The Mute (Male or Female, age open) The Mute serves many functions—setting props as characters need them, assisting El Gallo, and becoming the wall separating the families. While omnipresent the character must also have the ability to fade into the background. This is a functional character that sometimes interacts with the others. Any ethnicity

A madcap romp through the holiday season!

JIM (will be the actor's name, can be played by a male or female, any ethnicity): The “straight man”. No nonsense, struggles to keep the other cast mates on task. Just wants to perform “A Christmas Carol” like they have rehearsed. *Characters played by Jim: Grinch, Hermy, Sugar Plum Fairy, Scrooge, Mr. Potter. OPEN TO ALL GENDERS & ETHNICITIES

Perfect Arrangement
By Topher Payne
Director: Eric Davis
Rehearses: January 8th – January 25th, 2019
Previews: January 25th & 26th, 2019
Runs: January 26, 2019 – February 24th, 2019
(possible extension through March 3rd)

Synopsis: It’s the 1950s and the age of the Red Scare. The Martindales and the Baxters have manufactured a life as peppy as a sitcom, right down to the corny jokes and occasional product placement, but when a co-worker at the US State Department discovers their deepest secret, the worlds of “I Love Lucy” and Edward R. Murrow clash in hilarious, ironic, and genuinely moving ways. Long before Stonewall, nothing is as it seems in this New York Premiere previously staged to great acclaim in Washington and Atlanta.

Breakdown:

Bob Martindale: Male, 40-45 ROLE IS CAST (only seeking possible replacements) a WWII veteran, reserved; a solid man's man; good-humored and well-mannered; sexy with an unexpected darkness; seeking a real leading man with star power.

Millie Martindale: Female, 20-39 ROLE IS CAST (only seeking possible replacements) Bob's wife; plays the pretty but ditzy/quirky wife in public, but actually very quick-witted and observant; smart enough to maintain the act, and beautiful enough to sell it; has impeccable comic timing.

Jim Baxter: Male, 20-39 ROLE IS CAST (only seeking possible replacements) Norma's husband; slightly younger than Norma; a prankster type, always ready with a
comeback; a high school teacher with lots of energy; a little wired, good with a plan; ideally, has a short and/or compact build, think the funny sidekick.

Theodore Sunderson: Male, 50-59 ROLE IS CAST (only seeking possible replacements) boss; bombastic, loud, filled with hot air, and a little overbearing; a windbag; a blowhard; great comic timing, but also needs to get serious and scary.

Norma Baxter: Female, 30-39 she's a driven, career woman; the knowing, efficient, classy dame; a secretary at the State Department who could just as easily be Secretary of State; a smart woman who's great with a wisecrack and level-headed in a bind; should play a few years older than her husband, Jim.

Kitty Sunderson: Female, 40-59 Ted's wife; the oldest woman in the room, and also the most adolescent; legitimately ditzy; her brain seems to work on a totally different wavelength than the rest of the world; very sweet, very genuine, with a Mid-Western sensibility; just doesn't quite get it; great comedienne.

Barbara Grant: Female, 40-55 formidable opponent; no-nonsense, beautiful, brilliant, and a little scary; sexual and sexy; a true tri-sexual; she'll try anything once.

Runs: May 11th, 2018 – June 9th, 2019

BUYER & CELLAR is an outrageous comedy about the price of fame, the cost of things, and the oddest of odd jobs.

Alex More ROLE IS CAST (only seeking possible replacements) (25-35, male). An out-of-work actor desperate for a job and a new adventure. Gay, quick-witted, funny, optimistically sarcastic (not bitchy). Must be warm, engaging, funny and disarming. Much of the role is spent speaking to the audience. Actor also plays ALL roles in the play, including Barbra Streisand. It's important to get the essence of each character across to the audience, rather than attempt a full-on impression.
