PREPARATION
Please prepare a brief contemporary musical selection in the style of the show (80's or pop musical theatre) that demonstrates your vocal ability and personality. Bring sheet music in the correct key; an accompanist will be provided. Also prepare Sides for the character you are interested in. Sides will be available on the morning of the audition through the Equity monitor.

SYNOPSIS
Gymnastics prodigy Lorraine Stubenski was the favorite to lead the U.S. in the 1968 Mexico City Olympics, but in qualifiers, she fell off the balance beam (note symbolism), ending her Olympic dreams. It's 20 years later. Trip Allen, her old Olympic training partner and creator of Instathin diet pills, has taken her in to be his lead aerobics instructor, and she's good. But while Trip occasionally builds her up, the menacing fitness guru never lets her forget who is top dog. Enter Linda Gufstafson, a grounded but overlooked housewife who is herself looking to do less for her others and more for herself – darn it. Together, these two women form a deep bond and, along with a host of other characters from the gym on their own journeys, will take on Trip in the only place he may yet be vulnerable: the 1988 Crystal Light National Aerobics Championship, hosted by Alan Thicke.
Half The Karate Kid underdog story, half A Chorus Line, and two-thirds viral video that inspired a nation, Spandex more than adds up, honoring underdogs and dreamers everywhere, and the outfits some donned.
Note: Dance and movement play a significant part throughout the production for most roles. Gymnastic ability is a plus for select roles.

Understudy (Male, 30s – early 40s) a pumped Israeli new love interest, and a hallmark of the other narrative form who despite comic tendencies is still rooted in health, consistency and well-being / a pressure-heaping-on gymnastics commentator. Strong mover required. Vocal Range: Tenor with contemporary/pop mix to A.BOB GUFSTAFSON / COACH KUZNUTZOV / DAVID: (Male, mid-40s – 50s) a husband caught up in his own world and thinking all is fine until his marriage (and life) take a turn / Eastern European gymnastics coach in the Bela Károlyi / an attorney and aerobics enthusiast with a big heart and little aerobics ability. On the heavier side preferred but not essential. Must be a strong mover. Vocal Range: Tenor with contemporary/pop mix to A and a strong lower register.
TRIP ALLEN: (Male, 30s – 40s) a bronze medalist in men's gymnastics at the 1968 Olympics and won't let you forget it – owner of Bronze Bodies Gym and Trip Allen products line. Terrorizes others and is supportive only when there's another end game. Strong triple threat with comedic chops, gymnastics a plus. Vocal Range: Tenor/Baritenor to F/G.

Gender-fluid role that may be cast male-presenting. / Doubles as an iconic 1980s pop vocalist. Strong dance ability and comedic instincts required. Vocal Range: Tenor/Baritone with contemporary mix to G and strong lower register.
DEACON ANDREA DYKESTRA / ROB: (Female, 60s – 70s) (Pronounced Derk-stra.) our moral compass and fitness matriarch with a spark, strong mover with comedic chops / ASPN executive. Vocal Range: Alto with contemporary/pop mix to D.
