Accompanist provided on February 9 and 11 only. On those days, please prepare EITHER a) a brief song that shows you off OR b) a brief contemporary monologue OR c) 16 bars and a one-minute monologue. If singing, bring sheet music. Those interested in BUDDY may bring an instrument.

No accompanist provided on February 10. On that day, prepare a brief contemporary monologue. Those interested in BUDDY may audition on 2/10, accompanying themselves on their own guitars or on the (provided) piano.

Please bring a picture & resume, stapled back-to-back.

40s-50s. Jewish. Uncredited screenwriter; worked on revising the screenplay for “Gone with the Wind”.

Victor Fleming:

40s-50s. Director of “Gone with the Wind”.

David O. Selznick:

40s-50s, Jewish. Producer of “Gone with the Wind”.

Miss Poppenghul:

40s-50s. Selznick’s secretary.

CHICAGO Music: John Kander. Lyrics: Fred Ebb. Book: F. Ebb, Bob Fosse. Dir/Choreo: Marcia Milgrom Dodge. 1st reh: 4/26. Runs 5/18-6/12.

Brand new interpretation of the show that sets it authentically in Prohibition-Era Chicago, 1929-30.

Director’s casting note: “Seeking extremely versatile actor-singer-dancers with a strong ability to work in the Vaudeville style. Speaking roles will require a Chicago dialect.”

Roxie Hart:

30s, any ethnicity. Wannabe Vaudevillian and murderess. Sexy, funny and a spectacular dancer in tap, jazz and theatre dance. Big, first-rate Broadway belt voice. Modeled on Helen Morgan. Mezzo/alto.

Velma Kelly:

30s, any ethnicity. Extremely sexy, tough, funny murderer with a keen eye for publicity. Spectacular dancer in tap, jazz and theatre dance. Big, first-rate Broadway belt voice. Modeled on “Texas” Guinan. Alto.

Billy Flynn:

Late 30s-40s, any ethnicity. Suave, educated lawyer who can talk, wheedle and persuade anyone to do anything. His clients literally get away with murder. Handsome, charming and masculine. Performer must have wonderful baritone voice and move well.

Amos Hart:

Late 30s-40s, any ethnicity, size and shape. Garage mechanic. Milquetoast. Blindly devoted to Roxie. Comic-sad character. Actor must sing well and be physically adept. Modeled on Bert Williams. Baritone.

Matron “Mama” Morton:

30s-40s, any ethnicity. Mama is fond of her girls. Modeled on Sophie Tucker. Seeking sexy, funny, powerful and tough character actress with great belt voice. Belter.

Mary Sunshine:

Male, any age, any ethnicity. Acts like a good-natured talk show hostess, but is actually a high-powered gossip columnist. Performer must be a good comic actor and great legit singer (soprano or counter tenor who can sing legitimately to high Bb).

Caucasian man, 40s-50s. Tracy's father. Working-class inventor. Sweet, goofy, child-like personality. Adores his family. Thin. Role for a funny characte

Link Larkin:

Caucasian high-school boy. Handsome, sexy, clean-cut, good-hearted, down-to-earth. Heartthrob of the local TV teen dance show. Amber's boyfriend at first, but soon falls for Tracy. Strong pop singer and great mover.

Mrs Boyle:

50s-60s. Critical. Pleased by nothing she observes.

Major Metcalf:

Man, 60s. Retired from the army. Little is known about him.

Miss Casewell:

30s. Strange, aloof, masculine woman. Speaks offhandedly about the horrific experiences of her childhood.

Mr Paravicini:

70+. Of unknown provenance. Turns up claiming his car has overturned in a snowdrift. Appears to be affecting a foreign accent, and artificially aged with make-up.

Det. Sgt. Trotter:

Man, 30s-40s. Policeman. Arrives in a snowstorm, saying he has come to protect the guests from the murderer.

20s. 6’0” & up. Singer-songwriter and star from Lubbock, TX. Intelligent, charismatic. Actor must play electric guitar, sing and act, and have a feel for rock ‘n’ roll. Must possess serious star potential and have a desire to live as a rock
‘n’ roll superstar every night.

Ritchie Valens:

Mexican American, 20s. Handsome, with serious charisma and a dedicated eye for the ladies. Excellent actor and rock ‘n’ roll singer needed.


Joe B. Mauldin:

20s. Exceptional double bass player. Serious, square. From Lubbock, TX. Excellent actor/singer/musician needed.

Hipockets Duncan / Others:

Male, 30s. Exuberant hometown radio DJ from Lubbock, TX. Air of authority and keen sense of humor. Must be a strong actor. Must sing and play an instrument. Doubles as Murry Deutch and MC at Clear Lake.

Jerry Allison:

20s. Drummer from Lubbock, TX. Good-looking. Irrepressible cheeky humor. Musical ability. Must be an excellent drummer and good actor. The ability to sing is preferred, but not essential.

30s. Record producer from Clovis, NM. Businesslike manner. Love of making records. Must be a strong actor who can sing and play a musical instrument. Doubles as a Hayrider.

Vi Petty / Others:

30s. Norman’s wife. Heart of gold. Must be able to sing, act and play keyboards. Good sense of humor. Doubles as Mary Lou Sokoloff, a Snowbird and a Hayrider.

Maria Elena Holly / Others:

Puerto Rican, 20s. Attractive. Classy, well-educated. Performer must be able to sing and play an instrument. Doubles as a Snowbird and a Hayrider.

Apollo Performer / Others:

African American woman, 20s. Seeking excellent singer with good comic timing. Must play a musical instrument. Doubles as Shirley, a Snowbird and a Hayrider.

J. P. Richardson (The Big Bopper) / Others:
