Troy Maxson
53 year-old ex-professional baseball player, now a sanitation worker. Volatile. A large personality that is sometimes forced. Wants the best for his son but is often stubbornly blind to what that is. Loves his wife deeply but is unable to be faithful to her.

Jim Bono
Troy's best friend of over thirty years.

Gabriel Maxson
Troy’s brother. Suffered a head injury in World War II which has left him somewhat demented. Sees himself as the Angel Gabriel.
