12 PM – Equity male dancers (with Rhythm Tap) who sing 405 West 55th Street (@ Ninth Ave)

Please be warmed up and ready to dance when your call begins. All dancers will dance barefoot, as well as in tap shoes, and should bring them to the audition.
Some may be asked to stay and sing after all have danced. Please prepare 16 bars of a Legit song that shows off your voice and range, as well as a contemporary / R&B / Afrobeat song. Bring sheet music; an accompanist will be provided. In addition, please prepare a brief African chant of your choice, to be sung a cappella.
Please bring a current picture and resume, stapled together.
Seeking (note: All characters are African, mixed race or of African descent):
Male Dancer with Rhythm Tap (Ensemble Onstage Swing): Must be able to play authentically African. Character’s age may be anywhere from youthful to middle-aged. Physically active. Performer must be an excellent Rhythm Tap artist with ability in the African and Modern styles – choreography rooted in the gestural language of Bill T. Jones and extended into contemporary African movement. Able to improvise. Ballet and Modern. Acrobatic training of great interest, but not required if the performer has great coordination, flexible body and is able to learn new style quickly. Characters are members of Fela’s entourage, composed of young toughs, aspiring musicians and charismatic, attractive hangers-on. Performers must be familiar with - or have a feel for - Fela Kuti’s invention, Afrobeat music. Ability to sing a plus, sometimes multi-part harmony.
