SEEKING

Equity actors for roles in DUNSINANE by David Greig, Directed by Jasson Minadakis (see breakdown).

Local San Francisco Bay Area Actors are encouraged to submit.

Preferred method for submitting videos is to share as Google Drive files, or links to YouTube or Vimeo. Videos sent via WeTransfer will not be reviewed. Please name your videos: Ex: “Last name, First Name - Gruach, Side 1”. Submit as available - deadline for submissions June 17 (5pm PDT).

BREAKDOWN

PREPARATION INSTRUCTIONS:

Actors should use SCOTTISH or ENGLISH Accents for audition videos, if possible.

Please prepare the following:

1) Two to three Sides provided per the character for which you are auditioning. Sides are available at this link: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1RwuO9b0KuUxwgdDR4qaFd53NnhZr1rsS?usp=sharing

2) 15 to 30 Seconds of Movement: Can be stylistic, fight, or dance.

Start each video recording saying your name, the city and state where you currently reside, then announce the side number before performing each side. Actors are strongly encouraged to use an off-camera reader of their own choosing (such as in-person or via telephone or voice recording) for their video audition. If that's not possible, Actors may read the sides as monologues.



Plot Synopsis: A continuation of the Scottish play by William Shakespeare. Late at night in a foreign land, an English army sweeps through the landscape under cover of darkness and takes the seat of power. Struggling to contain his men and the ambitions of his superiors, the commanding officer attempts to negotiate the unspoken rules of this alien country. He seeks to restore peace to a country ravaged by war. This is Scotland in the eleventh century at the height of the fight for succession of the Scottish throne.

(Characters based on/inspired by Shakespeare’s Macbeth.)

No roles will be understudied.

GRUACH - Female-Identified, Any Ethnicity, 40s-50s. Based on Shakespeare’s Lady Macbeth. The Queen. Scottish Dialect. Everything she was in Shakespeare’s play until the banquet scene. Everything about her after the banquet scene was a lie told by Malcolm - the events never actually happened.

SIWARD (CAST) - Male-Identified, Any Ethnicity, 40s-50s. An English General. English Dialect

MALCOLM / SERGEANT - Male-Identified, Any Ethnicity, 20s-40s. Based on Shakespeare’s Malcolm, King of Scotland. Scottish Dialect. Shakespeare’s play is based on the political lies he told to get the English to invade Scotland on his behalf. Pure politician.

MACDUFF - Based on Shakespeare’s Macduff, Male-Identified, Any Ethnicity, 30s-50s. Scottish Lieutenant. Scottish Dialect. Needs Malcolm and the English to complete his revenge on the Macbeths.

EGHAM - Male-Identified, Any Ethnicity, 20s-50s. English Lieutenant. English Dialect. Career soldier, does not want to be in Scotland.
