Tuesday, June 28, 2011 Pearl Studios NYC “500”

10 AM (sign-up starts at 9 AM) – Male singers who move well 500 Eighth Avenue, 12th Floor

2 PM (sign-up starts at 1 PM) – Female singers who move well New York City

The producer will run all aspects of this call. Equity audition procedures will NOT be in effect, and no Equity Monitor will be provided.

Dancing first. Please be warmed up and ready to dance when the call begins. Women: Character shoes. Men: Jazz shoes. Please prepare 16 bars of a song in the style of the show. Singing from the show is welcome. Bring sheet music in the correct key; accompanist is provided, but may not transpose.

Please bring a picture & resume, stapled back-to-back.

Seeking singers who move extremely well. All must be proficient in blending/singing in tight harmonies. All positions open.

Effie White:

African American, 20-30. Extra curvy. Very talented lead singer of the Dreamettes, a hopeful girl group. In love with Curtis. Gospel belt.

Deena Jones:

African American, 18-30. Thin and beautiful original member of the Dreamettes, later renamed Deena Jones and the Dreams. Mezzo.

Curtis Taylor, Jr.:

African American, 25-40. Used-car salesman who becomes the Dreams' manager. Marries

Deena. Tenor.

James “Thunder” Early:

African American, 25-40. Popular James Brown-like R&B star who takes on the Dreamettes as his opening act. Tenor.

Lorrell Robinson:

African American, 18-27. Original member of the Dreamettes. In a relationship with James Early.

C. C. White:

African American, 18 – 32. Effie's brother. Aspiring songwriter. In love with Michelle. Tenor.

Michelle Morris:

African American, 18-30. Effie's replacement in Deena Jones and the Dreams. High belt.

Marty Madison:

African American, 25-45. James Early's manager and veteran music agent. Baritone.

Ensemble:

Must sing and dance well. All characters are African American, except where noted.

    Little Albert:
    Gospel blues tenor with ad lib skills.
