Core Ensemble 2011-12 Season

— Equity Principal Auditions by APPOINTMENT in FL

Michael Parola and The Core Ensemble Lake Worth, FL LOA (approval/salary level pending; 2010-11 weekly minimum: $424 + per-diem.

CD: Fiona Choi

Season runs from late October, 2011 until March 2012. Each play will tour for 2-7 weeks in rep during the season, specific dates TBD.

Sides will be provided at the audition. Visually-impaired performers may request an advance copy of sides when making an audition appointment. For singing roles, please also prepare a short folk song to be sung a cappella (in Spanish for TRES VIDAS and LOS VALIENTES).

AIN'T I A WOMAN by Kim Hines. Dir: Akin Babatunde.

One-woman play with music.

One Female Singing Actor:

AVAILABLE ROLE. Plays four African American women of substance: ex-slave and fiery abolitionist Sojourner Truth, renowned novelist and anthropologist Zora Neale Hurston, exuberant folk artist Clementine Hunter and fervent civil rights worker Fannie Lou Hamer. Extremely versatile actress needed. Strong command of language and physicality needed to embody these four characters at various life-stages, from age 30 - 80, with dignity and gentle humor. Strong mezzo/alto jazzy singing voice required.

OF EBONY EMBERS written & directed by Akin Babatunde.

A one-man play for actor and chamber music trio that examines the lives of four African American poets/artists of the Harlem Renaissance.

One Male Actor:

CAST. Auditioning performers will be considered as possible (emergency) replacements, should any become necessary. Plays three renowned African American poets/artists of the Harlem Renaissance: Langston Hughes, Countee Cullen and Claude McKay, as well as the great muralist and painter Aaron Douglas. Extremely versatile actor needed. Must have strong command of language and an agile grace to embody these four larger-than-life characters with dignity and gentle humor.

TRES VIDAS by Marjorie Agosin. Dir: Matthew Wright.

A one-woman play with music explores the lives of three fiery Latina women of substance.

One Female Singing Actor:

CAST. Auditioning performers will be considered as possible (emergency) replacements, should any become necessary. Plays three Latina women: Mexican painter Frida Kahlo, revered Argentinean poet Alfonsina Storni, and the sole survivor of the 1981 massacre of El Mazote during the El Salvadoran civil war, Rufina Amaya. Extremely versatile actress needed. Must have strong command of language and physicality to embody these three distinct and passionate characters at various life-stages, from age 17 – 40s. Latina dialects and strong mezzo soprano voice required. Text is in English, but songs are in Spanish.

LOS VALIENTES by Jose Cruz Gonzalez. Dir TBA.

One-man play with music.

One Male Singing Actor:

CAST. Auditioning performers will be considered as possible (emergency) replacements, should any become necessary. Actor plays three renowned Latin American figures: muralist Diego Rivera, slain human rights activist Archbishop Oscar Romero of San Salvador, and Mexican-American outlaw Joaquin Murieta (the basis for the Zorro legend). Extremely versatile actor needed, with tremendous charisma and strong, agile command of language and physicality. Characters range in age from 20s - 50s. Text is in English, but songs are in Spanish.
