BUENA VISTA SOCIAL CLUB (Broadway)
Note for all roles: Previous knowledge of the Spanish language is not required.
Latin American/Hispanic dancers (3 male-presenting and 3 female-presenting, all ages) to inhabit a world mostly focused on 1950s Cuba. Backgrounds and abilities in Latin-partnering, Latin dance (mambo, salsa, bolero), contemporary dance, and ballet. Strong musicality and storytelling-through-movement abilities. Must have strong partnering skills. Black or Mixed, Afro-Cuban, Afro-Latino or Afro-Caribbean dancers encouraged to attend.
The Off-Stage Swings will understudy a combination of the following roles (including Dance Ensemble) and will not be required to play any instruments.
[OMARA] 50+. Female-presenting. Strong vocalist. Mixed, Afro-Cuban, Afro-Latino or Afro-Caribbean. A graceful diva with a sharp wit. Deeply wounded. Hides it well.
[IBRAHIM] 50+. Male-presenting. Strong vocalist. Black. A man with a sweet voice, but a deeply spiritual presence.
[COMPAY] 50+. Male-presenting. Strong vocalist. Mixed, Afro-Cuban, Afro-Latino or Afro-Caribbean. A troubadour. A flirtatious charmer, but deep down, he's a soft, vulnerable artist.
[RUBEN] 50+. Male-presenting. Non-Speaking role. Mixed, Afro-Cuban, Afro-Latino or Afro-Caribbean. A man lost in his own mind. Some piano helpful but not required.
[YOUNG OMARA] 20s. Female-presenting. Strong vocalist. Mixed, Afro-Cuban, Afro-Latino or Afro-Caribbean. A dreamer. A bohemian free spirit who - over the course of our story - faces difficult decisions.
[YOUNG HAYDÉE] 20s. Female-presenting. Strong vocalist. Mixed, Afro-Cuban, Afro-Latino or Afro-Caribbean. A realist. Not one for romanticism, daydreaming, or nostalgia.
[YOUNG IBRAHIM] 20s. Male-presenting. Strong vocalist. Black. New to the big city, but you wouldn't call him bright-eyed - because he's not had an easy life.
[YOUNG COMPAY] 20s. Male-presenting. Strong vocalist. Mixed, Afro-Cuban, Afro-Latino or Afro-Caribbean. A charmer. Opinionated about music. Protective of the club because it's the only place he's ever felt at home.
[YOUNG RUBEN] 20s. Male-presenting. Musician (Piano). Mixed, Afro-Cuban, Afro-Latino or Afro-Caribbean. A fast-talking piano player with dreams of playing world stages.
[JUAN] 20s/30s. Male-presenting. Strong actor. Non-singer. Black or Mixed, Afro-Cuban, Afro-Latino or Afro-Caribbean. Driven and entrepreneurial. Smart and pragmatic.
[ELIADES] 20s-40s. Male-presenting. Musician (Guitar/Tres). A next-generation troubadour with vintage flair. A good friend to Juan. A bit country and he knows it.
