PREPARATION

Please prepare EITHER 1) a short song OR 2) short monologue OR 3) a One Minute Monologue and 16 bars of a song. Prepare material that fits one of the productions for this season. Total audition time not to exceed 2 minutes. Please bring sheet music in the appropriate key (if singing) and a picture/resume, stapled.

[TONY WENDICE] Male, mid 30s to mid 40s. British. A recently retired professional tennis player. Handsome, charming and charismatic. He does not initially seem like a villain, but is self-assured and arrogant; a constant manipulator with a slick, casual demeanor. Likes the finer things in life, but cannot afford them; his solution is to have his wealthy wife murdered. Any ethnicity.

[MARGOT WENDICE] Female, 30s to early 40s. British. Charming, elegant, confident but guileless wife of Tony Wendice. Comes from money and has always lived comfortably. She and Tony's marriage has not always been strong, leading her to have an affair with Max, which she has since ended. She trusts Tony and believes their marriage is back on track. Any ethnicity.

[MAX HALLIDAY] Male, 30s to 40s. An American murder mystery writer from New York. Successful and confident. Grounded, honest and genuine, he is in love with Margot and truly has her best interests at heart. Any ethnicity.

[CAPTAIN LESGATE] Male, mid 30s to mid 40s. Working class British. A con artist, also known as C.A. Swann, Adams, and Wilson. A former Cambridge classmate of Tony’s, who is now a convicted criminal willing to do most anything for money, including murder. An outsider looking in; guarded in manner, but easily one-upped. Dangerous in manner but not intelligence. Any ethnicity.

[INSPECTOR HUBBARD] Male, 50s to 60s. A seasoned British Police Inspector. A bit eccentric but thoughtful and extremely thorough. A strong presence, with gravitas. He has a keen sense of observation and intelligence, but does not show his hand until the time is right. Any ethnicity.

[THOMPSON] Male, 30s. A uniformed British police officer. Efficient and well trained, he has great respect for Inspector Hubbard. Any ethnicity.

[DONNA] Female, early 40s. The mother of a 20 year old girl. Attractive and free spirited. Attractive and free-spirited. A former lead singer in a group called Donna and the Dynamos who now owns and runs a small taverna on a Greek island. A strong, independent woman who can cut loose and have fun, but also has a vulnerable side. Must move well. Strong pop belter - Alto/ Mezzo.

[TANYA] Female, early 40s. Donna’s friend and a former singer in the “Dynamos. Rich, sophisticated, acerbic, funny, and witty. Actress who sings. Alto/ Mezzo.

[ROSIE] Female, early 40s. Also a former singer in the Dynamos who now writes for and runs a feminist press. She¹s confident, strong, and funny on the outside but shy underneath. Kooky and fun, good comic actress, bit of a clown. Actress who sings. Alto/ Mezzo.

[SOPHIE] Female, early 20s. Donna’s daughter. A very special, lovely young woman who is determined to find the romance and happiness she feels eluded her mother. A dreamer who is more like her mother than she’d like to admidt. Has a wild, zany spirit even though she pursues a conventional marriage. Pop Soprano or Alto/ Mezzo.

[SAM] Male, early 40s. May be Sophie’s father. Left Donna 20 years ago because he was engaged to another woman. Charming, successful architect. Actor who sings. Bari tenor.

[HARRY] Male, early 40s. May be Sophie’s father. British financier, wealthy, buttoned-up, and conservative but trying to reconnect with his freer, youthful self. Must be able to do a very convincing English accent. Also an actor who sings. High Baritone, Tenor. Proficient acoustic guitar player, a plus.

[BILL] Male, early 40s. May be Sophie’s father. An Australian travel writer with no possessions or strings. Good-natured, always ready for adventure. Funny, preferably a big or imposing man. Should be a very good actor who sings. High baritone.

[SKY] Male, 20s. Sophie’s fiancé. Athletic, attractive has given up his life as a successful young businessman in order to make over Donna¹s tavern and marry Sophie. Should move/dance well. Pop tenor.

[ALI] Female, early 20s. Sophie’s friend who arrives to be a bridesmaid. Impulsive and fun. Should sing and dance very well. Featured ensemble role.

Bossy, determined, gregarious, loves life and people but does not suffer fools, has a no-nonsense attitude and a tremendous heart of gold. [BRAD] Male, 20s. Quirky, but very much in love with his fiancé, Janet. Overly optimistic at times.?Bari-tenor.

[JANET] Female, 20s. Good girl who is madly in love with Brad. Always seems to be frightened of something. Keeps losing more of her clothes throughout the story. Emotionally weak and caves into pressure easily.?Mezzo Soprano Belt.

[MAGENTA] Magenta, 20s-30s. A very strange servant of Dr. Frank ‘N’ Furter. Bold and Sexy.?Husky Rock Mezzo/Alto

[RIFF RAFF] Male, 20s-40s. Creepy man resembling more of a zombie. Often makes harmless conversation seem awkward and foreboding. One of Frank’s servants.?High Rock Tenor.

[COLUMBIA] Female, 20s-40s. One of Frank’s servants.?Mezzo Soprano Belt.

[EDDIE/DR. SCOTT/NARRATOR] Male, 20s-40s. Eddie, delivery man, “went to pieces.” Misses the rock and role of life. Comes back to life only to die after his solo. Scott is Eddie’s Uncle. The Narrator follows our two hero’s through the story by narrating directly to the audience. Baritone.

[GIRL] Female, Any Ethnicity, 20s – 30s. Czech-born. Direct, intelligent, no nonsense and witty. Works hard and doesn’t want sympathy. Should have something ‘other’ about her. Has had to work hard at life but doesn't think she deserves any sympathy. Must play the piano and sing extremely well. Must have a strong Czech (Eastern European) accent. Folk/rock mezzo soprano.

[EAMON] Male, Any Ethnicity, 20s – late 40s. Irish. The music studio manager where GUY and GIRL record their album. A tough nut to crack but eventually gives into the musician’s talents and shows a passion and appreciation for their music. Must sing and play guitar & piano well. Facility with percussion a plus. Must have a strong Irish accent. Folk/rock baritone.

[ANDREJ] Male, Any Ethnicity, 20s. Czech-born. Earnest and kind. It works well if he has a slight build, made slighter by his oversized interview suit. An employee at a fast food chain, but has big dreams. Must play guitar & electric bass guitar extremely well. Facility with percussion a plus. Must have a strong Czech (Eastern European) accent. Folk/rock baritone.

[REZA] Female, Any Ethnicity, 20s – 30s. A vivacious, sexy, funny, smart Czech girl with a larger then life attitude. Must sing and play violin/fiddle extremely well. Must have a strong Czech (Eastern European) accent. Folk/rock soprano.

This is a fast-paced, physical, The 39 Steps-style comedy. Seeking excellent comic transformational actors, comfortable with razor sharp characters, whip fast changes and physical comedy, who are also skilled with a cappella singing.

[ACTOR THREE] Female 30’s – 50s. Silly and robust, this actor plays a number of roles including GERTRUDE: the slightly daffy spinster who first asks for charity from Scrooge, The mystical GHOST OF CHRISTMAS PAST, the clucking and haughty LADY MARMALADE, and a host of other delicious and silly Victorian archetypes. Seeking an actor with excellent transformational comic skill, familiar with sketch comedy and comfortable with hair pin character changes, quick witted invention, and a soulful presence. [ACTOR FOUR] Male 30’s – 50’s. A great character type, this actor plays a number of roles including BOB CRATCHIT: the long suffering clerk in Scrooge’s firm, MARLEY: Scrooge’s dead former business partner who haunts him from the grave, the ebullient and daffy MR. FEZZIWIG and many other fun twists on traditional Victorian locals. Seeking an actor with excellent transformational comic skill, familiar with sketch comedy and comfortable with hair pin character changes, quick witted invention, and a soulful presence. Should be comfortable with a British dialect and a cappella singing. Should play one of the instruments listed above.

[ACTOR FIVE] Male, 40s to 60s. To play SCROOGE: British emigre to the U.S. he is a hardened cold hearted miser, whose heart is warmed by a terrifying and ultimately sobering series of visions that take him through his past and present. When he sees the light, he becomes the town’s first impresario, turning his offices into a theatre. Seeking an extraordinary, physically agile comic actor with a sharp point of view on the character and a love for British comedy. Should be comfortable with a British dialect. Ideally he is adept with a cappella singing and can play one of the instruments listed above.
