James:
Caucasian male. Mid-late 50s. Sal’s older brother and Lynn’s ex-husband. Once strong and handsome, he has been worn by hard living and a stint in prison. He returns to repair his relationship with his son. He is a tough S.O.B.
Troll:
Female, any ethnicity. Mid 40s-60. A homeless woman who sells trinkets out of a shopping cart. She serves as Trevor’s and Bell’s guardian angel; she is both funny and frightening. She is a messenger.
Candy:
Female, any ethnicity. Late 30s-40s. Bell’s aunt and one of the bartenders; she is an alcoholic who functions at different levels of drunk throughout the play. Life has dealt her a bad hand and she drinks to ease the pain. She wants more out of life but is trapped. Once extremely attractive the years of hard drinking have taken their toll. She is a pleasure seeker.
Bell:
Female, any ethnicity. Mid-late 20s. Candy’s niece and Trevor’s fiancée. A tough working class girl who wants more from her life than it appears Trevor can offer. Trying to find a way out. She doesn’t want to end up like her mother and her aunt. She is pregnant with Trevor’s baby.
Trevor:
Caucasian male, mid-late 20s. Engaged to Bell. He is desperately trying to keep her from leaving as he is not sure he can live without her. He is a blue-collar poet who is lost and trying to find his way. He has a searching quality about him. Extremely likeable.
