BREAKDOWN

Description:

Using music as an integral part of the storytelling, Blue spans nearly twenty years in the life of the affluent African American Clark family in rural South Carolina. This humorous family portrait abounds with tenderness, acceptance and the search for unconditional love.

SEEKING:

YOUNG REUBEN: African-American, Male, 12 years old. Bright, intelligent, musical. Possibly plays an instrument like the trumpet.

UNDERSTUDY 1: African-American Female, 50’s – 60’s. Covers both PEGGY and TILLIE.

UNDERSTUDY 2: African-American Female. Adult Actor 18+ to play teens – early 30’s. Covers LATONYA.

UNDERSTUDY 3: African- American Male, 30’s – 50’s. Covers SAMUEL, JR. and BLUE

UNDERSTUDY 4: African-American Male. Adult Actor 18+ to play teens – early 30’s. Covers SAMUEL III, and REUBEN.

UNDERSTUDY 5: African-American Male, 12 years old. Covers YOUNG REUBEN.

THE FOLLOWING ROLES ARE CAST:

TILLIE CLARK: African-American Female, 60’s +. Samuel’s mother. Irascible, caustic.

PEGGY CLARK: African-American Female, late 30’s – mid 40’s. Ambitious, intelligent, stunning, absolutely nothing will get in her way.

BLUE WILLIAMS: African-American Male, 30’s – 50’s. Charismatic jazz singer. Actor must be able to sing.

SAMUEL CLARK, JR.: African- American Male, late 30’s – mid 40’s. Peggy’s husband. Elite soft-spoken businessman.

SAMUEL CLARK III: African-American Male. Adult Actor 18+ to play teens through early 30’s. Peggy and Samuel’s son. Rebellious and in a constant battle with his mother. Goes from adolescence to manhood.

LATONYA DINKINS: African-American Female. Adult actors 18+ to play teens through early 30’s. Sam’s girlfriend from the “other side of the tracks”. Has a thick South Carolina accent. Supple and subtle. Starts “country”, but goes “pseudo sophisticated”. Has ambition.

REUBEN: African-American Male, 27. Peggy and Samuel’s son; Bright, intelligent, musical. Older version of Young Reuben.
