Please prepare an audition not to exceed 3 minutes total with:

**Note: We are seeking a commitment from actors for both the Summer Rehearsal in NYC and the 2022 Berkeley rehearsal and production dates.

We welcome performers of all gender identities, abilities/exceptionalities, and body types. Please take this into consideration when submitting clients. In addition to genders listed in character breakdowns, we are ACTIVELY SEEKING TRANS AND NON-BINARY PERFORMERS for all roles.

The world of Mombasa and particularly the people who frequent the Jazz and Afrobeat club at the center of the show, MOTO MOTO, are a unique intersection of Kenyan identities: People of Black, South Asian and Middle Eastern descent. We welcome and are seeking vibrant, eclectic, non-musical theatre voices with styles that include: American Jazz, African Jazz, R&B, Afrobeat, Taarab, Bhangra, and Soul.

Characters:

[THE GRIO TRIO #1, #2, #3] – female-identifying or gender non conforming; late 20’s to 40’s, strong movers, all use East African/Kenyan accent. In the world of the show, they move between time and space as our narrators and guides. They are all uniquely mysterious, sultry and charismatic in their own way; Will also be part of the ensemble of the show.
#1 – Black, VOICE: ALTO/MEZZO
#2 – Black, VOICE: MEZZO/SOPRANO
#3 – South Asian or Middle Eastern descent, VOICE: SOPRANO

[MOTO MOTO MEMBERS] – all gender identities; Our Moto Moto Members will be illuminated as the vital pulse of the show. Must be strong singers and dancers in a variety of dance styles and genres including: Modern, Jazz, African, Hip Hop and Contemporary; 20’s+; Black, South Asian or Middle Eastern descent; All body types as well as performers with disabilities. Ensemble members will also cover various principal roles in the show.
