Seeking:

Adam:

20s. Innocent who learns and grows with the knowledge he has acquired from eating the forbidden fruit. The quintessential “first man”. Actor must be comfortable in a bodysuit that suggests nakedness.

Eve:

20s. Innocent who learns and grows with the knowledge she has acquired from eating the forbidden fruit. The quintessential “first woman”. Actress must be comfortable in a bodysuit that suggests nakedness.

God:

A little older than ageless. Omniscient and omnipotent, yet helpless to stop, alleviate, or dictate the journey of Adam and Eve that gets set in motion after the forbidden fruit is eaten. Has a sense of humor, but is, in some ways, as it has been said, the most tragic figure in the Bible.

The Serpent:

Also a little older than ageless. A magician, a snake-oil salesman, an archangel. A tool through which the story is told. In addition, the Serpent appears as other characters—loosely disguised, we always know it's the Serpent—in various scenes throughout the play. The character appears, in some sense, to be pulling the strings of the characters and the story and making his special brand of mischief along the way.

Nehebeth:

30s-50s. Ice Age woman. Tourist in her own land. Has had a tough existence. Still, she is savvy, with a low-key sense of humor and the courage and practicality to do whatever it takes to survive.

Shomein:

30s-50s. Nehebeth's mate, with similar sensibilities to Nehebeth, but more apt to miss the joke.

Wayfare:

30s-50s. Nomad. Just looking to get by, and looking for love. A nice guy, for a Neanderthal.

Fecunda:

Woman, 20s-30s. Has lost her tribe and her virginity. Practical and savvy. Through her pregnancy, the subsequent birth of her child and her humanity, she is a model for Eve, or what Eve may become.

Guardian:

Female, 30s-50s. The angel whom God places at the Gates of Eden to prevent anyone from ever entering the Garden again. She is a lightning bolt-carrying, power-grabbing, self-aggrandizing figure who is sort of a well-meaning caricature of herself. This is a ten-minute role, which may be double-cast with one of the other characters.
