Available Roles: All except Caesar.
ASF is casting a company of actors to play multiple roles in productions of Julius Caesar, Much Ado About Nothing and Moonlight and Magnolias. The following are character breakdowns for some of the currently available roles. MOST but not ALL actors will appear in all three plays. Note that contracts will run January 7, 2011 through May 21, 2011.
JULIUS CAESAR
Director: Geoffrey Sherman
1st rehearsal: 1/7/11. Runs: 2/4 – 3/21/11.
Seeking:
Brutus:
(Male, Late 30s – 40s): Marcus Junius Brutus. “This was the noblest Roman of them all.” Regarded by Caesar as a friend and confidante, he is manipulated into leading the conspirators by Cassius. Brutus regards the death of Caesar as imperative for the good of Rome. Never hasty, Brutus is a man who always agonizes over his decisions.
Cassius:
(Male, 40s). Gaius Cassius Longinus was both a successful soldier and a successful politician. Brother-in-law to Brutus. Moving force behind the conspirators. An Epicurean, philosophically, his antipathy to Julius Caesar stemmed more from an unwillingness to accept tyranny then a personal desire for power. Shakespeare’s Cassius, however, constantly harps on Caesar’s mortality and weakness as a man. An envious schemer.
Mark Anthony:
(Male, Late 30s). Marcus Antonius, a loyal follower of Julius Caesar, was a man with as many vices as virtues. Ambitious, courageous, and a philandering spendthrift; he is the only man standing in the way of the conspirators. A big, strong, virile, leading man type, Anthony is above all a soldier, though a soldier with a girl in every town, including (some years hence) a rather famous queen in Egypt.
MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING
Director: Diana Van Fossen
1st rehearsal: 2/5/11. Runs: 3/11 – 5/21/11
Set in British Raj India, late 1930's. British dialects. Indian attendants and soldiers, Bollywood dance.
Seeking:
Beatrice:
(Female, 30-36). Charming, intellectually edgy, upper class, sensual but challenging to men of her time, has not yet found her match.
Benedick:
(Male, 37-41). Dashing, courtly, wry sense of humor, possibly burnt by love while constantly pursued by women.
Claudio:
(Male, 28-30). Handsome, strong, rash military type.
Hero:
(Female, 18-22). Young, sweet, well-raised; not necessarily university material but witty. A Princess Diana type.
Don John:
(Male, 35+). Has always been successful and handsome, but also ill-willed and jealous.
Don Pedro:
(Male, 40+). Natural leader. Easy, generous, spirited. Just a little too much of a bachelor.
Leonato:
(Male, 50+). Father of young Hero. Personage of standing. Passionate holder of tradition. Good natured host and guardian.
Ursula:
(East Indian Female, 36-46). One of Hero’s ladies-in-waiting. Ideally seeking actors of East Indian heritage.
Dogberry:
(Male, 40+). A consummate comedian; strong character actor. Great comic timing and language skills.
