SEEKING

Male and Female actors of all ethnicities and ages. All actors will be expected to appear in at least two of the three summer rep show. Comfort in both musical theatre, and Shakespearean text is preferred.

PREPARATION

Two contrasting classical monologues (at least one of which must be Shakespeare) OR one Shakespeare monologue plus 32 bars of a song to be considered for Into the Woods.

ARKANSAS SHAKESPEARE THEATRE

Into the Woods (some of the below roles may be doubled)

Narrator/Mysterious Old Man – Male (age 40s-60s). Character serves as the narrator for the storybook stories, doubles as mysterious father figure. Vocal Range: G2-E Flat4

Witch – Female (Age 30s-50s). Cursed with “ugliness”, she works to obtain her beauty again so that her daughter (Rapunzel) will love her. And yet, it does not bring her all of the happiness that she thought it would. Vocal Range: F3-G5

Baker – Male (age 30s-40s). Works through his struggle to become not only a father, but a good one. Vocal Range: A Flat 2-G4

Baker’s Wife – Female (age 30s-40s). Works with her husband to break the curse on their house and have a child, but then wishes for a more glamorous life. Vocal Range: F3-G5

Cinderella – Female (age 20s-30s). Goes to the ball and falls in love with the prince, but realizes that life as a princess isn’t all she thought it would be. Vocal Range: G3-G5

Cinderella’s Prince (will probably double as Wolf) – Male (age 20s-30s).Typical Prince Charming. Vocal Range: B2-F4

Red Riding Hood – Female (Age Late teens - 20s). Has a sweets problem, goes to her grandmother’s house and is pursued by the wolf. Vocal Range: B flat 3-F5

Jack – Male (age late teens-20s). A determined but not that bright boy who sells his favorite cow for some magic beans. Vocal Range: B2-G4

Jack’s Mother – Female (Age 40s-60s). A single mother at her wits end with her not so bright son (Jack). After coming into a sudden fortune, life opens up anew if only for a brief time. Vocal Range: B flat 3-F5

Rapunzel – Female (age 20s-30s). Daughter to the Witch, she has been trapped in a tower her whole life. She falls in love with a prince, but her mother will not have it. Vocal Range: B3-A5

Rapunzel’s Prince – Male (20s-30s). Living in the shadow of his brother (Cinderella’s prince), spends his time seeking adventure and love. Vocal Range: C Sharp 3-E4

Cinderella’s Step-Mother – Female (Age 40s) The wicked step mother to Cinderella. Vocal Range: C4-A Flat 5

Wolf – Male (Age 20s-30s). Always looking for his next meal, but this time he might have swallowed more than he could handle. Vocal Range: B Flat 2-G Flat 4

As You Like It (some of the below roles may be doubled)

Rosalind – Female (20s-30s). The daughter of the exiled Duke Senior, she disguises herself as a boy and escapes to the forest of Arden when Duke Frederick’s rage turns on her. Witty and bright, she uses language to help her get out of a variety of sticky situations.

Orlando – Male (20s-30s). Youngest son of Sir Rowland be Boys and Oliver’s younger brother. He falls head over heels in love with Rosalind, but must escape his brother’s persecution by heading to the forest. Adventurous and hotheaded.

Duke Senior – Male (40s-60s). Rosalind’s father that was banished by his brother, a gentle man, he finds joy in his exile in Arden.

Jaques – Male (30s-60s). A melancholy man, that followed duke senior into exile.

Celia – Female (20s-30s). Duke Fredericks daughter, and best friend to Rosalind. She accompanies her into the forest disguised as a shepherdess.

Duke Frederick – Male (40’s-50’s). Duke Senior’s brother that usurps his throne and banishes Rosalind. Power hungry and paranoid.

Touchstone – Male (20’s-50’s). A clown at Fredrick’s court that accompanies Rosalind and Celia to the woods.

Oliver – Male (20’s-30’s). Oldest son to Sir Rowland de Boys, and inheritor of the de Boys estate. Hates his younger brother Orlando.

Silvius – Male (20’s). A young shepherd that is hopelessly in love with Phoebe.

Phoebe – Female (20’s). A shepherd’s daughter that despises Silvius and falls in love with Rosalind in disguise.

Lord Amiens – Male or Female (40’s-50’s). A lord that follows Duke Senior into exile in the forest with no regret. A musician, Amiens sings and plays guitar to entertain the other lords.

Charles – Male (20’s-30’s). Frederick’s wrestler at court, that Orlando fights and beats.

Adam – Male (50’s). The former servant of Sir Rowland de Bois, that accompanies Orlando into the forest.

Corin – Male (40s-60s). Another Shepherd. One that tries to counsel Silvius on love, and matches verbal wits with Touchstone.

Audrey – Female (20’s-30’s). A simple country lass, who falls in love with Touchstone.

Williams – Male (20’s-30’s) A simple country lad, in love with Audrey.

The Complete Works of William Shakespeare: Abridged

3 characters who perform all of Shakespeare’s plays in a raucous 100 minutes. Looking to cast a diverse trio of men and women, all of whom must be quick on their feet, great with language, and have a terrific sense of humor.
