NOTE: The production will be set in a period that is vaguely the 1940’s in an abandoned theatre. We are seeking a company of classically trained actors with great language skills of all ethnicities.

MALE ROLES:
OBERON/THESEUS
(30’s-40’s) A tall, powerful, very manly leading man with great sex appeal and magnetism. Oberon is the King of the Fairies. His Queen is Titania. To take his revenge on her after a quarrel he has Puck sprinkle a love potion over Titania and others that leads to great confusion. Theseus is the powerful Duke who is engaged to Hippolyta.
PUCK/PHILISTRATE
(20’S-30’S) Puck is Oberon’s servant, also known as Robin Goodfellow. He is a mischievous fairy who delights in playing pranks on mortals. His antics propel the plot. In this production Puck will be more dangerous than spritely. He’s sneaky and sexy, a man, not necessarily a boy. Seeking an actor who can sing and must also be very athletic. A very physical role. The Philistrate is Theseus’s master of the revels, responsible for organizing the entertainment for the Duke’s marriage celebration.
LYSANDER
(20’S) a young gentleman, very emo (self-involved and emotional) in love with Hermia, but after falling victim to Puck’s magic he wakes up in love with Helena.
DEMETRIUS
(20’S) a young gentleman, a bit square, like a young Republican. Initially in love with Hermia, he ultimately loves Helena, even after the magic potion wears off
The following roles, in this production, are being thought of as a club of older community actors/theatre people. They each have their own quirks and personality, but they are all characters and clowns, comic but sympathetic. Seeking various physical types:
NICK BOTTOM
(late 40’s’s-60) An old ham, a bigger guy is a plus. Must be physically adept with great comic ability. A natural leader. Due to the love potion, Titania falls in love with him, even after Puck has changed his head into an ass’s head.
TOM SNOUT
(50’s) Older character actor with good comic sense.
SNUG
(50’S) Older character actor with good comic sense.
ROBIN STARVELING
(50’S) Older character actor with good comic sense.
FRANCIS FLUTE
(20’S -30) The odd man out, a younger tag-a-long to the group of older guys above. Plays Thisbe, a young girl in love in the wedding celebration play.
FEMALE ROLES:
HIPPOLYTA/TITANIA
(30’s-40ish) Tall leading lady with great strength and charisma. Womanly and powerful. Earthy, sexy and funny. Titania is the Queen of the Fairies, married to Oberon. Under Puck’s magic spell she falls in love with and pursues Bottom. Hippolyta is the Queen of the Amazons, bethrothed to Theseus.
HELENA
(20’S) Tall, ungainly young lady, comic and funny. In love with Demetrius. She is sure both Lysander and Demetrius are mocking her after the spell makes them both fall in love with her.
HERMIA
(20’S) Shorter. A young lady, rebellious. She plans to defy her father and elope with Lysander, her true love, after her father insists she marry Demetrius. Self conscious about her short stature, she is sure that Helena has attracted Lysander and Demetrius with her height.
