Seeking:
Scrooge: Male – about 50 years old. A cantankerous man whose wealth and greed has turned his once-open heart to stone. Deaf to the needs of his fellow men, he is haunted and taken on a profound but amusing journey, to regain the spirit of charity and kindness he had as a young man. Strong singer and character actor; capable of great emotional depth and humor. (Baritone to Eb).
Bob Cratchit: Male – about 30 years old. A hard-working but put-upon clerk for Scrooge. Even with his fragile disposition, he is fiercely devoted to his family and especially his ill son, Tiny Tim. He maintains a kind and generous heart, even in light of Scrooge’s mean-spiritedness. (Baritenor to E).
JACOB MARLEY/FEZZIWIG: Male – middle-aged. As MARLEY: an aggressive, funny, and spooky ghost who returns from the grave (with some of his friends) to warn Scrooge of suffering his same fate in death, being a miser in life. Beatlejuice meets Night of the Living Dead. As FEZZIWIG: a portly, jolly, kind banker who helps Scrooge in his early career and throws rousing Xmas parties. Character actor. (Baritone to Ab)
Ghost Of Christmas Past: Male – young. A young, sprightly, enthusiastic apparition who is full of Christmas spirit and gets joyfully caught-up in the memories he conjures for Scrooge’s benefit. A mischievous Jiminy Cricket. (Tenor to G)
Ghost Of Christmas Present: Male – middle-aged. A big, sly, showman apparition who entertains with panache yet points out Scrooge’s most pressing concerns. Father Christmas meets Peter Allen. (Baritone to D)
Ghost Of Christmas Future/Mrs. Fezziwig: Female – middle-aged. As FUTURE: a knarled, unhappy, and frightening old hag. As MRS FEZZIWIG: the cheerful, portly, and ebullient hostess of the best Xmas bash in town. (Mezzo to Ab)
Mrs Cratchit: Female – about 30. The hopeful and generous wife of Bob Cratchit. Very protective of her children yet warm-hearted, except in terms of Scrooge. (Mezzo to D)
Emily/Sally: Female – 20s. As EMILY: beautiful, lovely, and goodhearted. Truly in love with young Ebenezer. Happy with the simple things in life – friends, family, and the joy that comes from loving someone and being loved in return. As SALLY: Fred’s dutiful wife who is tired of entertaining her unpleasant Uncle Scrooge for Christmas each year. (Soprano to F)
Young Scrooge: Male – 20s. Happy and sociable and deeply in love with Emily. Running from a life of poverty, he is still searching for a place to call home, but has found a second family with the Fezziwigs. (Tenor to G)
Fred Anderson: Male – 20s. Scrooge’s warm and compassionate nephew who feels both sorry for and obligated to his Uncle. (Baritenor to G)
Ensemble: Various character types and ages – male and female. All must be outstanding singers, dancers, and actors. Many supporting roles will come from ensemble, including OLD JOE and MR SMYTHE.
With few exceptions, all actors will also play smaller roles and be included in big musical numbers, as cast. Everyone must sing and dance with equal aplomb.
NOTE: Dancers and singers who wish to be considered for ensemble roles are encouraged to attend the Equity Chorus Call on September 27.
