SEEKING

Equity actors for roles in A CHRISTMAS CAROL (See breakdown).
All roles will be understudied.
In casting A CHRISTMAS CAROL, Virginia Repertory Theatre endeavors to be as inclusive as possible. We invite all performers, including gender non-conforming, genderqueer, transgender, and non-binary actors, to audition for the roles they most identify with. We will also list race/ethnicity when specific to the character but are otherwise seeking all races and ethnicities.

PREPARATION

Please prepare a monologue no longer than 1 minute, performed in either a Standard British or Cockney dialect. Also, bring your headshot and resume stapled together.

BREAKDOWN

A CHRISTMAS CAROL

EBENEZER SCROOGE: (Male identifying, 50s or older) Bitter, miserly, despises Christmas and values money above all else. After being visited by three spirits, he transforms into a generous and joyful person, embracing kindness and the true meaning of Christmas.

JACOB MARLEY & OTHERS: (Male identifying, 40s or older) Deceased business partner of Scrooge who returns as a ghost to warn him against a life of greed and selfishness.

GHOST OF CHRISTMAS PAST & OTHERS: (Any gender, 20s-30s) Vibrant and graceful spirit, ethereal yet grounded. Exudes warmth and compassion while carrying a sense of purpose and inquiry. Good movement and vocal skills.

GHOST OF CHRISTMAS PRESENT & OTHERS: (Any gender, 30s-50s) Joyous, charismatic spirit who radiates warmth and festivity. While fun-loving and larger than life, also capable of seriousness and emotional depth, confronting Scrooge with honesty and strength.

GHOST OF CHRISTMAS FUTURE & OTHERS: (Any gender, 30s-40s) Eerie, voiceless phantom with a commanding stage presence. Precise movement and strong non-verbal expression.

BOB CRATCHIT & OTHERS: (Male identifying, 30s-40s) Scrooge’s kind-hearted, optimistic clerk with a strong work ethic and deep love for his family. Cheerful and resilient despite life's challenges.

MRS. CRATCHIT & OTHERS: (Female identifying, 30s-40s) Loving, but realistic wife of Bob Cratchit. Worried mother, harbors ill will toward Scrooge.

MR. FEZZIWIG & OTHERS: (Male identifying, 40s or older) Jovial merchant with a warm and energetic personality.

MRS. DILBER & OTHERS: (Female identifying, 40s or older) Scrooge’s feisty and joyful housekeeper. Good comedic and vocal skills.

FRED & OTHERS: (Male identifying, 20s-30s) Scrooge’s nephew, full of joy and good spirit, devoted to his new wife and honoring the memory of his mother, Fan.

MRS. FRED & OTHERS: (Female identifying, 20s-30s) Wife of Fred. Strong-willed, but with a generous spirit.

MRS. FRED’S SISTER & OTHERS: (Female identifying, 20s-30s) Sassy and opinionated.

TOPPER & OTHERS: (Male identifying, 20s-30s) Bumbling with words, pleasant attitude, boyish charm.

BELLE & OTHERS: (Female identifying, 20s) Optimistic love interest of young Scrooge. Warm, thoughtful with a good heart.
