BREAKDOWN

THE NARRATOR - (older Tiny Tim), Male-identifying, Caucasian, Age: early 20’s – early 30’s. A poet and artist; the teller of this ghostly tale. Sings well. Actor portrays older Tiny Tim. Actors with a mild physical disability encouraged to submit. Character uses a cane/crutch to walk.

FRED – Male-identifying, Any ethnicity, Age: 20’s. Handsome nephew of old Scrooge, with a cheerful voice and a sparkling laugh. Sings well.

JACOB MARLEY - Male-identifying, Any ethnicity, Age: 30’s - Scrooge’s first and only business partner; dead as a doornail. Non-singing role. Flying involved.

THE GHOST OF CHRISTMAS PRESENT / MAN 1 - Male-identifying, Any ethnicity, Age: Late 20's - early 40's. A giant of harvest and plenty, glorious to behold. Sings very well. NOTE: Character walks on painter stilts for entire show.

MR. FEZZIWIG / MAN 2 - Male-identifying, Any ethnicity, Age: 30 - 50. Voluminous in his great jovial benevolence. Sings well. Understudies role of SCROOGE.

EBENEZER SCROOGE (CAST) - a tight-fisted hand at the grindstone. A squeezing, wrenching, grasping, scraping, clutching, covetous old sinner.

BOB CRATCHIT (CAST) - A clerk in the service of Ebenezer Scrooge and the loving father of a fine family.

MRS. CRATCHIT (CAST) - Bob’s wife, poor in possessions but rich in family. Also, CHRISTMAS PAST- The first of the three spirits, she is of the air – resplendent in stars.

MRS. FEZZIWIG (CAST) - One vast substantial smile, Also, MRS. DILBER - Scrooge’s housekeeper, a martyr and, later, a disreputable seller of goods.

PEARLIES (CAST) - versatile tumbler/acrobat/poltergeists, inspired by 19th century London’s Cockney buskers — street entertainers who performed for donations. These street performers typically wore topcoats covered with pearl buttons; hence, the name. In our story, these spirits are visitors from the realm of imagination and are allies of the Narrator in the telling of his tale by attending the Spirits and otherwise moving the action of the play forward.
