The Des Moines Playhouse Announces 'Second Saturday' Entertainment For Young People, Begins 9/12
The Des Moines Playhouse is the home for Second Saturday, an alternative Saturday night entertainment for young people in grades 6 - 12. The new season of Second Saturday kicks off at 7:30-10:00 PM, Saturday, Sept. 12. Cost is $8. Pre-registration is strongly encouraged, and is available online at dmplayhouse.com.
Now in its 17th year of theatre fun at The Playhouse, Second Saturday is an evening of sketch comedy and fast-paced games. Students, more than 100 each month from throughout the metro, work in groups according to age. While not a class or workshop, Second Saturday is planned and supervised by Playhouse education staff.
Second Saturday is held each month, September - May. The 2009-10 season schedule is as follows: Oct. 10, Nov. 14, Dec. 12, Jan. 9, Feb. 13, Mar. 13, Apr. 10, and May 8.
The Playhouse is Iowa's oldest and largest producing theatre. Located at the 42nd Street exit of I-235, the theatre has presented a full season of shows since 1919 and also offers a wide variety of educational experiences including classes for ages 4 to adult, theatre trips to New York, and volunteer opportunities onstage and backstage.
