Sonoma State University Department of Theatre Arts & Dance presents "Fall Dance Concert 2011."
Twelve student choreographers and over sixty dancers participate in the 2011 SSU Fall Dance Concert, a dance performance showcase featuring a wide variety of styles and genres including hip-hop, jazz, lyrical, contemporary and ballet. Choreography will touch on various themes, reflect popular culture or explore physics of dance. The concert, featuring student dancers, promises inventive, bold and expressive movement and dances combined with adventurous choreographic choices as it celebrates the creativity and talent of future dance artists. "You will see dances inspired by the pure joy created from moving. I think for each choreographer the process has been deeply personal and there exists a very real connection with the material being investigated," said Kristen Daley, dance concert director and Sonoma State University Associate Professor, Department of Theatre Arts and Dance."We held open auditions for the 2011 Fall Dance Concert and had a significant turn out of Sonoma State University students who are not studying dance. I think the popularity of television shows including 'So, You Think You Can Dance' has inspired these students. So, we have a special university community represented in this dance concert. The dance concert also features the artistic talents of student lighting designers who are working with choreographers to collaborate on creating a 'work of art.' I believe that passion and dedication to dance will shine through in this show," said Daley.
