The Mom(me) Show will Premiere at Madcap Theater This Weekend
By: Kelsey Denette
The Mom(me) Show will premier at Madcap Theater in Westminster, Colorado on Sunday, April 7, 2013 at 7:00 p.m. This original show is the brainchild of four longtime Denver-area comediennes: Sara Alan, Garrett Faillaci, Renee Harper and Susan Knudten.
The Mom(me) Show is a comic take on the experience of motherhood, and consists of sketches, original songs, improvised scenes, videos and monologues written and performed by the creators. Some of the topics covered include a sketch about the pressure to be the perfect 'green' mom, a musical lament about the poor behavior of other people's children, a monologue about losing one's identity as an individual (and gaining enough weight that your butt can swallow a swing at the park), and an improvised expert on child development, among others.
Between them, the four creators have performed more than 7,000 comedy shows for Denver/Boulder audiences. "We all worked together more than a decade ago performing improv, and developed lasting friendships," says Harper. "As we became mothers over the years, our get-togethers evolved into seeking reassurance or advice, and swapping funny parenting stories. We made each other laugh so much, we realized there was easily enough material for a show. So we started writing."
While The Mom(me) Show comes from the point of view of mothers, the material is written to also entertain dads, grandparents and non-parents. "You didn't have to be a bridesmaid to enjoy Bridesmaids," says Knudten. "We've put together a 'clean' show that can be enjoyed by anyone. It just might hit a little closer to home for the moms in the audience."
Tickets to The Mom(me) Show are $22. The show is scheduled to run every Sunday in April and May, with April show times at 7:00 p.m., and May show times at 3:00 p.m. Reservations are recommended
