The Denver Immersive Summit and the DCPA Off-Center present The Denver Immersive Retrospectacle, Thursday, August 15, 7-9 pm (Doors at 6 and cash bar reception at 9).

From Meow Wolf's new building popping up above I-25 to a growing escape room scene and a thriving interactive theater and dance community, Denver is the hot home for immersive art and entertainment.

"Immersive" is the catch-all term for the burgeoning new industry that blends traditional art and entertainment styles with more contemporary experience-based approaches. In recent years, the immersive scene has grown from a buzzword to a $4.5 billion industry.

The Denver Immersive Retrospectacle follows up on last year's sold-out Denver Immersive Summit with a one-night celebration of the past, present and future of immersive art and entertainment in the region. The event also gives makers, producers, performers and patrons a chance to mingle and network during pre-event activities and a post-event mixer.

The evening features a keynote by Jaako Stenros, Ph.D, a Finnish game researcher and scholar who specializes in playfulness through a variety of game types. His talk will center on Nordic live action role-playing (LARP), which pushes the boundaries of immersive form and content through a variety of themes, structures, and social experiences--from the Cold War to orcs and elves, from life on a hippie communes to interstellar intrigue aboard a spaceship.

The Retrospectacle will also showcase a year-in-review of major local immersive productions and accomplishments in the areas of theatre and dance, art and installations, attractions and events, and everything in between. As a special bonus, attendees will receive a copy of the Denver Immersive Summit Yearbook, a handy who's who of regional immersive art and entertainment creators and producers.
