STAGE TUBE: Meet 'Lefty Carusso' from WHO KILLED JIGABOO JONES? at Work Space Denver
In a brand new teaser clip released in advance of the debut of Who Killed Jigaboo Jones?, playwright Jeff Campbell introduces us to Lefty Caruso, the vampire. Caruso represents all that is wrong with the industry. A character who feeds off the life and creativity of others in order to sustain himself, this archetype is found all throughout hip-hop. Caruso mentions some of his favorite "jigs" with tongue and cheek verbal brutality, mentioning Chief Keef, Kanye West, and Wu-Tang Clan's Ol' Dirty Bastard. Of the latter Caruso expresses that ODB "was my favorite Wu-Tang member cause he was a real jig." watch!
In the donnie l. betts directed play, Who Killed Jigaboo Jones? Campbell will explore the hip-hop industrial complex and the plaguing problems in the culture's representation. Written and performed by Jeff Campbell Who Killed Jigaboo Jones? casts a hard eye on the ever-changing elements of hip-hop and its influence on culture.
Watch "Lefty Caruso," the vampire as he discusses his love of jigs, coons and porch monkeys, punctuating his narrative with hilarious demands for a "plasma latte."
Who Killed Jigaboo Jones? will run from October 4-19th (On Thursday, Friday, and Saturday ONLY) at Work Space Denver. You can purchase tickets here. Jeff Campbell is available for interviews and show review requests.
