This November Roman Polanski's shorts will be touring the states carried by an unusual pair of Polish instrumentalists. Sza/Za, from Krakow, Poland, will be performing their own tunes to the beat of the films. Supported by the film office at the Polish Cultural Institute in NYC, the duet will be carrying the 35 mm prints of Polanski's shorts from before the fame of "Rosemary's Baby".

Sza/Za are a duet comprised of Pawe? Szamburski and Patryk Zakrocki. As members of bands such as Cukunft, Tupika, Meritum and Horny Trees, Sza/Za are known for composing music for theatre and film. Their music combines elements of improvisation, jazz and electronics, and veers from the playful to the absurd. Sza/Za's instruments span from clarinet to viola to moog to percussion. They are also members of the legendary Polish label Lado ABC.

"Armed with a mix of traditional instruments and machinic gear, the duo played an imaginative set of electro-acoustic music marked by jazz, musique-concrete, and the kind of fidgety minimal rhythms favored by dance-music gadfly Matthew Herbert. They blew into a bass clarinet, sang through the pick-up of a violin, and pitch-shifted pretty much every sound they created until the whole mix shared the air of serious European improv and playful vaudevillian farce."

- Andy Bataglia, The Onion A.V. Club

Roman Polanski: Shorts with Live Music by Sza/Za is presented by Communikey and the Polish Cultural Institute in New York, in association with Unsound Festival. Additional support has been provided by Trust for Mutual Understanding and Janus Films.
